Anyone know anything about Nu-Tech drives?

Sigh.. that doesn't mean that the disc is actually rated at that speed. You'd think he would have learned this after reviewing the Plextor.

Nu Tech now has the DDW firmware available on their website. Interestingly, they have the same file for both the 6x and 8x drives. It would be interesting to find out if flashing the 6x drive would upgrade it to 8x. If so, it would be a very cheap way to an 8x drive.

I flashed mine (DDW-081) last night from BX02 to BX03 , and used the 40X Calibrator but could not see much difference, but I need some good 40x + media to do some further testing

btw it was an easy flash all in 1 exe.....

NeroTools showed that it could write 40X on CD-R but my media, even though rated 48X was unable to do so, still sat @ 32X...elcheapo shite

The drive acted and ran smoothly with little or no difference that I could physically see.

Still no bitsetting though....used DVDInfo Pro and another Bitsetting app but I cant remember what it was called....does anyone know of any other I can try?........does BenQ have 1 ....a link would be greatfully appreciated..

Received my drive and finally got a chance to burn a couple of discs. Had no problem burning at 8x on 4x rated Memorex (I think they are Ricoh) in Nero 6. The Memorex are all I have right now, so did not try any other brand. I also formatted a couple of DVD+RW's that I had used in an Optorite DVD+R that I had tried for a couple of days and returned. I could not get the Optorite to correctly recognize the DVD+RW's after formatting, but the DDW081 did not have any problems.

I updated the firmware from BX02 to BX03 before doing any burning. I also tried to get bitsetting to work, but had no luck. It did not work with DVDInfoPro or with the BenQ utility...the choice was not available in Nero. I sent an e-mail to their tech support in Taiwan to see if they are developing their own utility.

I tried to do a CD/DVD Speed transfer rate test, but it didn't seem to work correctly. I used a single layer DVD movie of 4.2GB for the test. The drive would not get over 2x actual speed (read speed, of course, increased as the head moved toward the outer edge). Is this what I should expect?

BTW, the package comes with a Verbatim DVD+R, a Nu Tech labeled DVD+RW (not sure of the brand), Sonic MyDVD software suite, IDE cable, screws and an audio cable.

Anyone know of a good place to get Verb 4x DataLifePlus? Most of the stores around here have stopped carrying it for some reason.

Yeah, here in Norway all Verbatim datalifeplus discs is suddenly made by Taiyo Yuden, but they are still available, at least the 4X DVD-R is available (but is made by TY), 4X DVD+R is hard to find some places and also made by TY.

Good that I've stocked up Verbatim dlp made by mitsubishi....should last for a while, as I have about 20 discs or so left and only use 1-2 per review

They actually might not have dropped it but might be waiting on the next supply and so far put something else there in place.

Local store owners here are haveing problems with getting supplies of Verbatim 4x media and Pioneer 4x DVD-R media.
It might be because there actually concentrateing on 8x media at the moment which should be there in a couple of weeks.

I've been corresponding with a QSI tech in Taiwan about the Nu Tech drives. My last e-mail asked if there was a QSI utility for controlling bitsetting with these drives. I included the BenQ utility to give him an idea what I was talking about.

Well, to my surprise, I received an e-mail this morning with a QSI utility attached. He said it would work with firmware BX03 and above. I'm at work and have been unable to test it, but if someone wants it, I will forward it along. It is not yet on the Nu Tech site, so it may need to get hosted somewhere as well.

Nu Tek...I sent it to you...I still had your e-mail from the PM you sent.

BTW, has anyone done any transfer rate testing? I asked about it in another post...any info would be appreciated.

Just ordered mine from United Micro....They dont have the graetest reviews,either great or horrible (United Micro)...but at $139 shipping included I figured I would give it a try....

DO NOT get the Memorex 4x media. It is VERY low quality media, especially when burning it at 8x. Of course that is only on the Plextor, but it is safe to assume that it is the low quality media making PoweRec slow the burn down. I would expect the same or similar results to occur on the Nu-Tech drive.

On Unitedmicro. I ordered my drive from them. Other than the fact that they didn't ship on the day I ordered, everything arrived fine. It was new, retail...as described, and was well packed. Their customer service seemed a little clueless, but hopefully I won't have to return it.

On the bitsetting utility. I just tried it with a DVD+RW. With the disc in the drive, I just clicked the button I wanted the disc to be set at and hit RUN. I noticed that the light on the drive turned red for an instant. DVDInfopro then showed the disc with a DVD-ROM book type. So, I guess it works. Did not try it with a DVD+R.

Thanx for the info Murse...all ok...I did it with a DVD+R.....

I firstly cooked a DVD+R using the standard setting and she cooked with DVD-ROM then changed the book type to DVD+R and she did as she was told and cooked it using the DVD+R book type.....

I Used the same burn app (DVDClone) as well as same media

and guess what they both playe dok in a DVD-ROM

Happy as pig in shite... and thanx for your help tooo M8.
