Question about Pioneer

Postby seaegg on Wed Oct 22, 2003 11:48 am

I just bought a Pioneer DVR-106RD and wanted to know if it's the same as the Pioneer DVR-106D. I wanted to make sure before I flashed it to 1.07, the current firmare is 1.05.

Since when are Pioneer drives made by Acer ?
THe orriginal Acer was split in Benq and Acer.
Benq is currently makeing +R only drives together with Philips.
From Acer we haven't seen any seperate drives any more except this one maybe ?

It sounds more like Pioneer manufactured it for Acer, for use in their computers.

It IS actually an Acer drive, probably the only drive Pioneer rebadged from another manufacturer.

Also, here's some good news for you guys. Apparently, this drive can be flashed to the normal Pioneer 106D firmware, with all it's good media compatibility.
For details, refer to the above post, as well as:

Hope this helps :)

EDIT: Here's the file you need:

Well I actually found a firmware update for the DVR-106RD here:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1615

I flashed the drive without a problem and just burned a 4GB file at 4x using a Ritek 4x DVD-R.

Yep, you flashed with the right firmware. It makes the drive RPC2 and enables >2X DVD ripping.

Pioneer seems to let there drive be now made by some OEM partners.
which just use the design. I still hope that they made a agreement on quality controle asspects.

I agree. As long as it is just plain outsourcing, and the QC is good, no worries.
