8x DVD-R & 8x DVD+R media

Muahaha!
"Something wicked this way comes"
(that was from macbeth for those of you who don't know shakespear)

I have a source that claims 8x DVD-Rs and 8x DVD+Rs are now available from Ritek... I will confirm tomorrow.

If this is true, I have the potential to have them in my hands within 7-10 business days from placing an order :D

I will confirm this news personally tomorrow...I *HOPE* it's true!

7 workdays makes it exactly the next month.
Which is the same as my local store which expects to get Ritek and Verbatim 8x DVD+R & DVD-R(only Ritek)(the verbatim dvd-r are supposed to come to the end of november) at the begining of November.
So I think it's true.

Now I'm wondering if the DVD+R by Ritek based on Ricoh or Ritek technology. I really hope it's Ricoh (better compatability, and better chemical composition.)

The Ritek 8x DVD+Rs will PROBABLY be based on Ricoh technology, but I won't know that unless I have them in hand, since I don't think that Ritek will share that info with me on their own!

I will know more in a few more hours I hope! :D

Okay, I just talked with my contact at Ritek USA and this is what he said:

"Yes, the 8x DVD-R and 8x DVD+R media exists, but we do not have it ready yet. And we don't have it here. They do have the 8x DVD-R and 8x DVD+R media in Taiwan, but it has not yet finished the testing stages. You can expect this media to be available closer to the end of the year. Don't worry, as soon as this happens I will let you know!"

So there you have it, straight from Ritek USA. I have no idea where www.blankmedia.ca got their information, but they must have things a little confused!

Sorry if I got people's hopes up :(

edit: I just talked with www.blankmedia.ca, and they say that Ritek Taiwan is now allowing sample orders, with larger orders to be filled shortly after. Since I don't have a contact in the Taiwan office, I can't personally confirm this.

At the moment, I would be even happy getting some decent 4x DVD+RW media. That's also why I would not go and buy a 8x burner at the moment. Even with my 411s, media is the major limitation - concerning both speed and quality.
