Plextor PX-708a - Burning Problems

Postby Impulse on Mon Oct 20, 2003 12:23 pm

Well, I finally got some 4x media that should work at 8x (Maxell 5 pack), but I'm having some problems. I'm using Nero 5.5.10.42 and I went to burn a DVD ISO image at 8x and it just sits forever at writing the "lead-in" and doesn't go any further, even if I let it sit for 45 minutes. I tried the same scenario again, this time setting it at 4x, with the same result.

Just looking for some suggestions on what to do to fix this, since I haven't seen this same issue in the forums. I'm going to try upgrading to the 1.03 firmware, since I'm currently at 1.02 and see what that does. After that, I'll probably remove Nero, run the clean tool, and re-install. If any of you have ran into this issue before and know how to fix it, I'm listening. :) Thanks for the hlep.

P.S

I only have 5 of these Maxell discs, so I'll be running out shortly. :) I have a 25 pack of Memorex media on the way from Amazon. Also, I've successfully burned 2x DVD-Rs with this setup and a few CD-Rs at 40x wihout any problems, so I don't think it's the Nero install.

Try updating Nero to 5.5.10.54.

Well, looks like the firmware update fixed that issue. :) Using firmware 1.03, it took about 10 seconds to think about the lead-in and started burning just fine at 8x.

Final burn time for a 4468MB DVD Image: 8 minutes, 1 second.

So, if you were thinking of upgrading to the latest firmware, I'm thinking it's worth it so far. :)
