Upgrading Plextor 708A firmware from 1.01 to 1.02?

Any experiences anyone? any good or bad differences? US site still does not post 1.02 Firmware.... Thanks

1.02 is better than 1.01, but not as good as 1.00 which the first drives shipped with.

i upgraded my writer's firmware from 1.00 to 1.02 (didnt upgrade to 1.01 when it came out)
did i do a mistake????!!!!

Well, 1.02 is better than 1.00 and 1.01 in a few ways.

1. Slow-down at 8x could be attributed to PoweRec kicking in, increasing the quality of the disk.

2. Seems else-where to be all around better.

3. Slow-Down never occurs before it is done with all the 6x writing (at least for me) which is still a lot better than 4x. We may just have to wait until 8x media comes out before we can burn constantly at actual 8x.

I also upgraded from 1.00 to 1.02 but that should be OK. When doing firmware upgrades, one does not have to do them sequentially. The latest version that you use to flash with overwrites the previous version completely just like bios upgrades on motherboards. One thing for sure you cannot go backwards from 1.02.
