You did try it with a Lite-On drive? As K-probe only works with Lite-On made drives.
You may try Nero CD-speed for a quality check, or dvdinfopro ( www.dvdinfopro.com )

I do have a question. If you are using Nero to burn, does it give you the option of bitsetting? If not, I wonder if the BenQ utility would work, considering they both use Philips hardware.
