Plextor Region Code

Hi
I have a Plextor PX-708A Firmware V1.02. The region code is 1. Is it possible to change it to Region 2 and how? Or is it better to leave it as is and use DVD RegionFree or AnyDVD? Your commends would be appreciated.

You should be able to change region code for 5 times and the fifth change sticks forever. Well not forever, you can ask your Plextor support center to change it 4 times (or maybe 5 times) again. Unless you only use movie dvds from one region, you don't need to bother about region free apps. If you really need to view dvds from different regions, use dvd region free.

You should be able to change the region in device manager if you are using Windows XP under the region tab.

Or when you try playing a DVD in Power DVD, and it is a different region than your player, it will ask you if you want to change it.

I have yet to even try to play a DVD or burn a CD-R on my 708A drives. :)
I prefer to use dedicated drives, especially since I already own DVD-ROM and CD-RW drives...

Powerdvd told me that the DVD cannot run with the current region settings when I tried to play a DVD in the Plextor. I had to go into Device Manager and set the region for the Plextor before I was able to play and DVDs.

Best / least riskiest solution for most of the DVD Region issues is "DVD Region Free" from http://www.dvdidle.com .

Current version is 3.1x .
