newbie with a burning 3000 CD question

Hi All,
I am pretty much new to CD buring.
I may have a client who wants approx 3000 CD's burning.
Eeek I hear you say.

What is the best way to do things?
Buy a USB2/Firewire burner and burn one at a time?!
Buy several USB burners?
Hire a duplicator?
Forget the whole idea it will be hellish?

Assuming that all of the discs are supposed to contain the same data, I think you should have them commercially duplicated. It would be really hard to burn that many discs at one time, and burning would probably actually cost you more. BTW, one time, I had to duplicate (only) 170 CDs for someone I know (I burned them), and it was a lot of work!

Well I know that it would take quite a bit of time....but that is not a problem for me...

I could send it to get commercially burned but I am trying to make some cash for myself. I could probably do them in sets of 1000 over a period of a few weeks.

I know it sounds crazy but I need the cash so hey! I am willing to sit there and do them all.

If for example I had a FireWire burner....I only need to burn max 10 MB per disk....Wouldn't only take about 5 minutes per disk?

I know this may sound like madness but needs must!

at 3000 discs you can hire a plant to do it for you at pretty cheap, and then charge 15%-30% on top of that to your customer. If you let me know where you live I can probably recommend a plant to you. Trust me, this is the better way to go. You are probably looking at under $0.85 per disc (Canadian) if you have a plant do it for you (quoted off the top of my head, I'm not at work currently), and you can probably get a 2 colour label silkscreened on the CD too!

When I duplicated the 170 discs, each had only two files; a 12.5 MB EXE and an autorun.inf file. Each disc took about 30 seconds to burn. Still, it took a long time to make the 170 copies. Unless you can use something like one of those 8-discs-at-a-time duplication machines, I think that burning wouldn't be a good option.
