Plextor 708A & Media Compatibility

Postby plexboy on Thu Oct 09, 2003 7:12 pm

Hi All, I'm new to forums...I just got a Plextor 708A and picked up some cheap 1x-4x dvdr media (HQ brand) only to find out that it is NOT compatible with my drive...GRRRR....Can anyone let me know their thoughts on CHEAP 4x DVD-R media and where to get it? Thanks!...oh one more thing...my stand alone player does NOT play DVD+R so that is not an option right now.

i too bought some of the HQs from meritline.com . My sony burns them fine albeit at 2X.The plextor wont burn them at all.If I cant get the plextor to burn the dvd-rs its going back as thats what I use most.I just got my order of BeAll dvd-r's from meritline. I will let you know how they work.

No they arent. They are supposed to be awesome discs though. They were 83.54 shipped for 50 of them.On the XBOX modifcation forums they are touted as reading in any of the XBOX's even when scratched.I had to try them out.Still havent burnt one yet though still playing with the Plextor at 8X with the TDK discs.

Postby wicked1 on Thu Oct 09, 2003 10:59 pm

I just put a disk in the plextor,a BeAll 4x DVD-R. It blew at 1% done with a Track Following error whatever that means. The disks are burning at 4X in my Sony which is a first for it on DVD-Rs it has never burnt a DVD-R at 4x only at 2x or 1x.The plextor hasnt burnt me a single dvd-r yet and plextor doesnt seem to be of much help.

So far ALL DVD+R/RW discs except bulkpaq have worked ok.

But DVD-R is a different story......some types of 4X princo discs works ok though :)

But for now: Try to stick to +R/RW discs :)

Hopefully they get bored by all my failed disc reports at plextor and fixes the issues.
