I just can't get excited about Blu-Ray or AOD drives. Probably because I'd need to sell my liver just to buy one.

Well, I for one could use 23GB/disc. But they need to make a dual-layer Bluray disc: 46GB! :) Then I'd be grabbing one drive, 20 discs...then no more CDs or DVDs!! :)

Looks like dual-layer Blu-Ray is in the works too. Panasonic showed 50GB media at Ceatec.

umm their one huge problem with Blu-Ray. Cost is namely one of them. But also if you take it anywhere i am sure you will be hard pressed to find a PC that has a blu-ray drive to read such a disc

No rush here either; I am VERY happy with current '4.7 GB' DVD-R and +R technology.
Once these new drives and, almost more importantly, the associated media drop to reasonable levels, I'll consider upgrading...

When dvd burners first came out they were in the $10000-$20000 range too. Same for Blu-Ray, AOD, or any other upcoming format. Give it a few years and it'll be affordable.

First Blu-ray Disc recorders cost US$2,500 per unit only and the media, US$25 for a 23GB cartridge-protected rewritable.
