Pioneer DVR-107d Specifications

DVD-R/W, DVD+R/RW, DVD-RAM

Well, I cannot agree with the statement that the war is over... Not until "plus" equal "minus" on price.
For me and most of consumers, the issue is price and whether one is more compatible then the other it’s irrelevant. I can tell you that in my country “plus” costs twice the price has “minus” so “minus” rules… Of course if it was the same price maybe things would be different, I don’t know….
Nowadays, DVD players can read both formats and with quality media (either plus or minus) you can get pretty good results. These are my thoughts based on thousands of posts and material that I’ve read. My personal experience also tells me that most recent DVD players will read both formats.
I have a Jocel DVD Player for 3 years now and he reads both plus and minus whether is rw or a single record. My Plasytaion 2 also reads both formats either rw or r and she is 1 year old…
One thing I’ve experienced is that quality media is half the way to get a good backup and that +RW media takes 4-5 seconds to erase on my Pio A06 while –rw takes 1,30 minutes…

It' has 24x CD-R but even that is slow when you compare it to drives like the PX-708A or Lite-On's new DVD writers.

Once again, as jase and I noticed when we discussed +RW and -RW:
This appears to be a big division based on region (e.g. UK vs US):

In the UK -RW writers are very popular and -R media is cheaper than +R.

In the US, +RW is far and away more widely availabe and also more popular than -RW; just check any major US site selling burners (buy.com, bestbuy.com, officedepot.com, compusa.com, circuitcity.com, officemax, staples etc.). +R media is also as cheap as -R
media in the US, especially for name brands, where 4X + is often cheaper than 2X -R.

I never had a favorite, nor did I really care: I have two dual DVD burners,
and my home DVD players play both formats.
However, I think, one could now assume that +RW will eventually "win the war" (not my terminology), given the fact that the -RW camp is having trouble getting beyond 6X, and +RW is already at 8X +R and appears poised to hit 16X next year...

+RW will win, especially with Dual Layer disks coming in.

It's interesting that you neglect to notice that DVD-R also have a dual layer recordable disc coming out....
