LDW-401D was only a guess at the model number. Since then they've decided to use LDW-411S.

A quick question, aviationwiz:

You say:
but there are other parts in there that are not capable of 8x writing, hence, it won't happen,

Exactly WHAT parts are you refering to, and (if you have it) what is your source?

Thanks :-?

I remember hearing about it. I know one part is 8x capable (either servo or laser) but I am sure there are other parts not capable of 8x writing.

OK ... WHY are you sure?

You've made quite a statement (which may well be true), but so far I don't see the rational behind it.

While I would support the view that someone would have to be nuts to buy a 4X in hopes of hacking it to 8X (at least untill well proven by many others), all those who have already committed cash to a 4X may reasonably persue such a course.

So, if you DON'T KNOW it won't work, please moderate your position. :o

PS - As it seems likely you enjoy owning Plextor made drives, would you care to purchase some of my vintage drives?
No true Plextor booster should be without 'em!

Actually, we're talking about a higher rotation speed @ 8X for the drive which the servos might simply not be capable of attaining. Big difference there.
