Considering the benchmarks over at Toms Hardware, I'll be waiting for the P4 Extreme Edition. Especially since it's a heck of alot faster for the things that *I* do the most. As always, pick the best tool for the job. And Hyperthreading means no system slow down when I'm really pushing the CPU to the max and I want to multitask. To me, THAT is the biggest advantage the P4 has. But it won't help everyone. And being 64-bit is worthless until we have 64-bit software.
But, I may have to rethink my stance once the benchmarks with a 64-Bit version of Linux pop up. At least on Linux, you can compile everything to MAKE it 64-bit....
It's to bad AMD can't get the clock speed's up. An Athlon 64 running at 3+GHz would rock. So would a dual-CPU 3GHz setup...
Oh well. Hopefully soon. Very soon. Because the 3.6GHz P4 EE is coming...
EDIT:
$800 for the FX, and the P4EE is supposed to be $740. Pretty close...expensive, yes, but hey, it is cutting edge...
