Problem with Plextor 708a

Problem with Plextor 708a

I am trying to burn a Memorex 4x DVD+R with my plextor 708a. I updated my firmware to version 1.01 and I have tried three different versions of nero to burn but I keep on getting the same error message at the end of the burn. It says:
Invalid field in parameter
PLEXTOR DVDR PX-708A\H1 T0
and under that it says:
Could not perform end of Disc-at-once
I have wasted 4 discs so far. Any idea what this is caused by? I have had nothing but problems with this drive. Thanks

Which version of Nero are you using?
I am successfully using 6.0.0.11, but I haven't upgraded my firmware yet (I am using 1.00), since I just got back from running errands tonight.

Nero Version

I've tried nero 5.5.5.42, 6.0.0.11, and 6.0.0.15. It weird because the version 1.00 had no problems.

Assuming it is definitely the burner, it would be nice if they offered a way to go back to 1.00

Problems

If I am having these problems other people must be having the same problem. I also have been having problems with 48X Memorex CD-r media with the 708a. I am tempted to use my HP 200e until plextor gets all the problems straightened out. I have never had any problems with Memorex media with the HP drive and I am tired of making coasters with this plextor. Oh well, I sent an e-mail to support we will see what happens.

I'm having a similar problem:

With firmware 1.00 I got this errormessage with ricoh discs, with 1.01 it works perfect!

On the other side Tayo yuden worked with the 1.00 firmware, but now with firmware 1.01 i get this error message.

Strange.... I don't know if plextor or ahead is the one to blame.

Also it do not like prodisc media.....for example memorex 48X. But this is normal for all plextor drives, they do not like prodisc....premium slows down to 24X and PX708A fails insted of slowing down. Guess there is a problem with prodisc and plextor then :cry:

OC-Freak,

Regarding whether it is Ahead or Plextor that is causing your problem, but I have used Memorex with fw 1.00 and Nero 6.0.0.11, and did not get the error message you got with 1.00 and Memorex.
I wonder if it could be the differences in the batches of Memorex media sold here in the US vs those sold in Europe?

Same problem

Hi

I have exactly the same problem. Using Nero 5.5.10.50 and firmware 1.01. I even got that error message when burning in 4x with discs specified for 4x, both Verbatim and Maxell. I´m really irritated about the hole thing and would really appreciate some help.

It would be suprising if it´s Nero 5 that´s causing this; because that is the version Plextor ships with the burner.

Plextor 708a

I use the same Memorex DVD media and my Plextor 708a came with the firmware 1.01 and I am not having any problems. Based on the various threads I've read, those having problems seems to be the ones who flashed their firmware from 1.00 to 1.01. Could it be the problems are from the downloaded formware. As I said, my unit came with 1.01 already on it and I am not having any issues at all. I even mounted my unit on en external box and connecting via firewire. Just my 2 cents. Thanks

I have burned Verbatin, Princo, eproformance,Optodisc with both versions 1.0 and 1.01 using Nero 5.5.10.50 and CloneDVD with no problems.

You might want to try Nero 6.0.0.11 demo/trial and see if it works for you.

Hi

I used Nero 6 and suddenly I could burn with 8x on Maxell 4x.
Apparently it was Nero after all, strange...

Same problems with PX-708A

I am having the same problems with the Nero/Plextor combination. Look familiar to anyone:

3:28:22 PM #29 CDR -1067 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1626

....Could not perform end of Disc-at-once


I have tried the following combinations:
Nero 6.0.0.15 with Firmware 1.00 - Memorex DVD+R 4x seem to fail.

I upgraded to v1.01, and downgraded Nero to 6.0.0.11. I DID burn two successfully at 8x. And several Fuji DVD+RW at 2.4x. Then they started failing again.

I've tried 3 email attempts to Ahead for tech support, but haven't gotten a response.

Perhaps Memorex is bad media for this drive?
