i prefer to use my dual format sony dru-510a's dvd-r more, just because i can find the media around $0.40 cheaper per disc, if the dvd+r media were cheaper than i would use that

Unless you want to do real-time editing and use other advanced/fancy techniques/features etc. on rewriteable media, +R and -R are essentially equivalent when it comes to burning data once onto recordable media, with the biggest difference being read compatiblity on some (home) DVD players and DVD-ROM drives.

The prevailing prices of media used to be a factor, but that difference has pretty much disappeared as of late, with +R deals in retails stores actually being easier to find than -R deals in many cases.

I have used plenty of both (i.e. -R and +R), and have not seen any real difference, other than compatiblity with some older players, where - R appears to have a distinct advantage.
For newer players, however, the compatibility differences are greatly diminished.

There is often a lot of marketing hype out there, with the features being hyped being those that the average user won't (ever) take advantage of (myself included so far).

I think that the only difference between +R and -R is mostly opinion, with the exception being obvious things like:

1.DVD-R is more compatible with older DVD Players.

2. -R and +R have just about the same compatibility on newer players.

3. As of now, +R CAN be written at 8x, whereas -R can only be written at 4x.

and now days there aren't a lot of dvd players that read only dvd+r, there mostly all formats

Thanks for helping! So, a movie copied on a dvd- and on a dvd+ will have the same quality in both dvds? Will it be exactly the same?

Exact same quality, except for media difference of course. Example: A Princo DVD-R will not be the same as a TY DVD+R, or DVD-R, as Princo is of lower quality than TY.

1. Is it nesecary to make two posts in the same minute?

2. The compatibility issue would only make a real difference for people who are burning Video DVD's for distribution purposes. Besides, I personally have not come across a DVD Player that will not play DVD+R.

Credible source or not.. you can swing the results of these studies either way. Much of it depends on what drives you're using and whether you're talking about PC DVD-ROM drives or set top DVD players. Personally, I don't put too much faith into any of them.

My advice? Find what formats your DVD player and/or DVD-ROM player support and buy a writer to suit those needs.
