If its anything like the LDW-401S, its going to be a nice drive. Hopefully they licked some of the DVD-R problems they were supposed to be having.

I'd expect it to be priced at between $145 and $155 initially on newegg.com, probably just a hair more than what the 401S was introduced at. If it's any more than this, then they're not going to be very competitave with the dual format from BTC. The BTC can be found for $149 after rebates at Office Max branded under Micro Advantage.

Ya it's going to be a hard sell when you can get an NEC or Optorite for under $140USD and a Pioneer A06(OEM) for $160.
I think they're a little late in the game with too much competition.

The reason that I compared it mostly to the BTC over those other drives is because of the advantage of having the fast CD writing speeds. I'm pretty sure that the BTC is the only other DVD Burner with such high CD speeds (the PX-708A is in another class). IMO, the NEC and the Optorite should be cheaper than the LDW-411S, the Pioneer shouldn't cost much more.

Yeah but based on what I've seen about the Optorite and NEC I would only really consider the Pioneer. That is based on the media compatability problems wit the other two drives. I expect the LITE ON drive td do well with media compatability as well.

Yes, but none of these drives offer 4x DVD+RW, 40x CD-RW or 24x CD-RW writing speeds.

In addition to other brands not having the wide media compatibility that LiteOn is famous for, the other drives don't alsohave the ability to check for PI/PO errors (although we don't yet know how well these results correlate with reality).

It's an interesting drive, imho.

I'm still going to wait for the 2nd generation LiteOn manufactured dual format drive. I have sneaking suspicions about a drive that has been apparently postponed due to incompatibility problems so many times.

However, that' just a suspicion and I hope I'll be cleare of any such notions as soon as good reviews show how the drive performs on various media (esp. minus format).

regards,
Halcyon
