Good for those who can't wait a few days :)

Once you add tax, it comes to $318 (in my state).
Considering you can get it (also retail box) for $258 (or maybe less) shipped online, with no tax unless you're in CA, it isn't exactly a Best Buy, pun intended.
Burners only:
Pioneer DVR-115D
Pioneer DVR-111D
Plextor PX-716A TLA0304
Plextor PX-716A same TLA

LiteOn 52246S 52X CD-RW
LiteOn 52246S (another)
LiteOn 52327S 52X CD-RW
TDK 40X USB 2.0 CD-RW
TEAC CD-W540E 40X CD-RW

No, but it is a good place to get an "evaluation" unit. :) I bought mine there so I could test it for myself. If it works well (and so far, it has) and I can save more than $50 by returning it and buying it online elsewhere, I will. The store is more of a BestBorrow. :)

I thought BestBuy charges a 15% restocking fee on PC gear (like CompUSA), but I just checked, and the fee only applies to certain PC gear, which apparently does NOT include drives.
I know Circuit City does NOT have restocking fees anymore, to their credit.

Making it more expensive for everyone else. Don't be a dick.

You're obviously young enough to think that what you're doing is cool. It isn't.

So, I should buy it online and take a chance that the drive has significant problems that would make it unusable for me, and have to pay shipping and re-stocking fees to return it? Not going to happen.

Retail stores offer a return period to get customers to try out a product they would otherwise not try. I, for one, will not buy from a store that doesn't have a return policy (with no re-stock fees) unless I have no choice due to the type of product I'm shopping for. Everything else being equal, I'll buy from the store with the better return policy if there's an option. One of the reasons people pay an annual fee to be members of Costco is their virtually unlimited return policy. (6 months(!) on Desktops & Notebooks, no limit on everything else.)

As mentioned above, CC used to charge 15% re-stock fees on returns. They no longer do that. Did they stop doing that out of the goodness of their corporate heart? Or, because it was costing them money in lost sales? I'd bet on the latter, but have no way to know for sure.

When I decide whether or not to keep the PX708A I got from BestBuy, I'll take in a printout of a reputable internet site (like Newegg) and give BestBuy the option of matching their price. If they don't wish to, they can give me a refund on the drive and I'll buy it from Newegg.

As for the comment about being young, all I can say is I wish! :)

Then you should be old enough to know better or phrase your comments in a more appropriate manner.

This pissed me off

The store is more of a BestBorrow

Best Buy doesn't price match with online stores.

It IS unfair to buy stuff knowing u'll return it, wether it works 4 you or not. In case of a justified return, it's worth paying a few more $$$ and buy @ B.Buy 8)

I payed full retail for the Sony 500a I bought. I did it becuase I was tired of waiting for a sale and there it was at Frys ready to go and I had the money. I also wanted a store to go back on that had a good return policy in case it was a dud for me. It has worked great so far for me and I've never needed the return privlidges I had. I always try to buy locally when possible even if it's a bit more expensive becuase I want a place to go back too if there's a problem, I don't feel like waiting a week and paying for shipping, and I don't want to have to box it up and pay to ship it back and wait for another week for another one or a refund.
If I really know the product and I can't find it here for a reasonable price then I'll go online and get it, but sometimes with certain things it's worth a bit extra for the local shop and all the extras you get.

I second that. That's what all the damn Open Box items are at stores, people who bought it, and just didn't like it. If you don't plan on keeping it, then don't buy it, simple as that.

Unfair to who? Best Buy? Then why do they offer a 30-day return program? Because it's a necessary cost of doing business, and they profit from it quite well. Yes, some people will use it more than they would like, but they still come out way ahead. (In my opinion)

The sales reps use the policy in their pitch, too. More than a few times store employees have suggested that I take it home and try it out, and return it if I don't like it.

My mom was shopping for a sewing machine at Sears, and the sales rep tried 3 times to get her to buy one and try it for 30-days.

We're just gonna have to agree to disagree. I don't feel buying a product to try it out is wrong, and you guys aren't going to change my mind.

Unfair to other consumers (like all of us) that'll end up paying more... and shorter return periods too.

Agreed elim,

In addition to those reasons, because it could be the last one, but then when you bring it back, it's an Open-Box, and no one in the right mind (as far as I am concerned) would buy it. That's why some stores have re-stocking fee's, because of folks like you.
