k i ran the test both quick and extensive. there was no errors found with the hard drive.

Could you try using the low-level format option in PowerMax? It will erase all data on the drive, so you'll need to backup your data before running the low-level format.

yep and the message doesnt appear during bootup.

Well, it sounds to me like your HDD isn't going to last much longer. I'd recommend that you just buy a new drive.

I'm basing my thoughts on the SMART errors that won't go away, even though the software didn't find a problem. Since the motherboard doesn't seem to be finding SMART errors on another known-good hard drive, I would suspect that the problem is the drive, and I personally wouldn't trust it to keep data.

A friend had similar problems with a new 40 Gig (7200 rpm) Maxtor - sometimes the plates just wouldn't spin up. I replaced it under warranty for Seagate and since then the PC works flawless.
