Postby VEFF on Fri Sep 12, 2003 9:43 am

Please post software (include version number) that does and doesn't work with the PX-708A.
Of course over time new versions will fix issues, but for now this can hopefully serve as a reference that those experiencing problems can consult to see if others are having similar problems.

Thanks.

I wonder if it is a media, mobo (or other) chipset or a hardware/software conflict?
It would be nice if we could find a common denominator for those having problems with certain versions of Nero.

Used it with Ulead MovieFactory 2, using PRINCO (DVD-R X4) , OPTODISC (DVD-R x2) and VERBATIM (DVD+RW x 2.4) and the results were ECXELLENT! I have also copied a DVD I made with NERO V 5.5.10.50 and it worked 100%. I am very glad that I eventually chose the PLEXTOR PX-708A

Roxio Easy CD Creator 6 and Drag to Disc-Success writing to CD-R / CD-RW...still haven't figured out how to write a Movie DVD with it...No real need when I also have Nero
Nero 5.5.10.42-Success writing and closing DVD+R at 8X (using Verbatim Data Life Plus 4X and the enclosed Plextor DVD+R).
Clone CD 4.2.0.2-Success
DVD Decrypter 3.1.6.0 (rips at 2X unless you disable speedread, once done...rips up to 8X

All in all...this drive is Beautiful!

How do you disable speed read?

I believe bobmitchell meant to say ENABLE SpeedRead since it ships with SpeedRead disabled by default.

When you are playing a DVD-Video disc that has CSS (copy protection via the Content Scrambling System), the PX-708A normally plays at a slow speed (silent operation) to reduce drive noise. You can speed up DVD playback by using the eject button to ENABLE SpeedRead.

To manually enable SpeedRead and speed up DVD playback:

1. Ensure the PX-708A disc tray is closed and empty.
2. Press and hold the PX-708A's eject button for at least 3 seconds. The LED indicator blinks green three times to indicate SpeedRead will be active for DVD-Video discs with CSS Copy Protection.
3. Release the eject button. The disc tray opens.
4. Insert a DVD-Video disc that is equipped with CSS copy protection.
5. Begin playing the disc.
