LTR-52327S because it is inexpensive and has good write quality and good media compatibility.

The Plextor Premium has more features (Gigarec, Varirec, etc.), but I personally don't think most people need those features. For those who do, the Premium would probably be better.

Edit: If I remember right, the Sony drive you mentioned is just a re-badged LTR-52327S.

Umm, not exactly a fair comparison!

LiteON is better at some things then Plextor, and Plextor is better at some things then LiteON, and Yamaha has their own niche as well.

LG drives generally are known for good burn quality as well, but they don't have any of the nifty features that LiteON and Plextor do.

Between my LiteON 48125W and my Plextor Premium I'm hard pressed to choose a favourite as I have different uses for both of them. I tend to see which burner burns certain discs better, and then stick with that one. So my vote I guess would go with the Plextor Premium for the moment, since the LiteON 48125W isn't on the list... but I don't have any personal experiences with the rest of the drives listed there, so I don't know if it's even fair if I vote or not!

Aviationwiz: The CRX220E1 is a re-badged LTR-52246S. The CRX225E is a re-badged LTR-52327S. Check dhc014's web site for details.

Dolphinius_rex: Those are some good points. It is very fair to say that each drive has its strengths and weaknesses. I have noticed the same thing with the drives that I use frequently (mainly my Lite-On drives). For example, my 32123S does DAE better than my 48125W, but the 48125W definitely writes faster.

I didn't vote as my drives aren't on the list. I have a LG 8523b 52x24x52x (recently bought) and an 8160b 16x10x40x. I haven't been burning very long but I suspect I have burned at least 200 disks. Only once has a disk not worked, the burner said it could read the TOC. I looked at the fresh blank and noticed it was cracked. Other than that, never a problem. I have used memorex, super cheap no brand name, verbatium and samsung disks.

I am happy with LG. Haven't tried anything else.

Poll's like this help in future decisions.

Anyhoo, me votes for 52327S. Nice drive. Can't justify the expense of a Plexwriter Premium.

Like I said, both the LiteON and the Plextor Premium have advantages over each other. I've come across a couple of different media types that respond better to the LiteON then the Plextor Premium... I've also come across the opposite.

Despite his evilness, I like Al because he is an LG fan like me.

Al, vote for the LG GCE-8520B, it's basically the same drive that you have. Keep it in the LG family.

While the supposedly rich folks spend all the money on 1 Plextor premium, I used mine to buy a 52327S and a large portion of a optorite DD0203... Whatever floats your boat. Hmmm... if someone buys both a plextor premium ($101) and a PX-708A ($290), he could've used that money for a complete system...

Good point. But if you live with your parents, don't have a girlfriend and already have a fast computer, what else are you going to spend it on?

Personally I don't like polls like this. pje what kind of budget are you working with and what are you going to use this drive for?

i bought the plextor for the perfect burns it does using TY media, i "backup" disks, so my customers get perfect copies

I have a lite on 52x32x52 for less than a month and it was gr8. Seemed v.fast n all, until halfway thru verifyin a CD in nero, it came up with read errors...and now it doesnt read any cd's at all, i probably jus have a faulty drive. A second drive is on the way tho & hopefully will be problem-free. Just wonderin, does any1 knw what the problem could be? And can it be easily&cheaply repaired?

you found a the often occuring Lite-On problem, don't worry about it, if its under warranty

I have this problem before , but the problem seem to be gone after I updated my drive's firmware . Have you tried that ?
