Postby johnnyjt on Fri Aug 22, 2003 6:04 pm

Tiger direct.com has Ultra 4x4x12x DVD+RW Burner, 16x10x32x CD-RW

with Nero Express and Intervideo Software for $99 after $20 rebate.

I think this is a BenQ any thoughts, any good?

That's what I thought at first too but the BenQ DW400A has an 8MB buffer. The one at TD is only 4MB. Of course, the specs could be wrong.

Besides, DW400A is 16x10x40 CD-RW, while this one is apparently 16x10x32. Well...here's the manufacturer's web site, if it's any help:

Just Spoke with BenQ Support

Postby VinMan on Thu Aug 28, 2003 1:45 pm

Just got of the phone with BenQ technical support. They told me the Ultra is a OEM BenQ DW400A variant. I asked about the compatability of the DW400A firmware update on BenQ website.

They told me that they have not tested the firmware update on the Ultra yet and so therefore could not give me a 100% guarantee that it would work. They ended the conversation by saying unofficially that it should work.

I received one today from Tiger and it is a DW400A. It's a white box job, but there's no doubt about it being a DW400A -- that's all over the box and drive. The specs at Tiger are not correct -- at least with the drive I received. I don't know anything about this drive at all, except that it was inexpensive and what was at Benq's site. I'm waiting for some media to arrive to check it out.

This is my first DVD writeable drive. I have the LiteOn LTR 52327 and Samsung SM348 (8MB model).
