LG 4040B and Nero6 / buffer report ???

Postby Peter_Mann on Fri Sep 05, 2003 10:37 am

Hi.

Just want to know if anyone else sees this.

When I burn a DVD copy in Nero 6.0.0.0 there is no report of the status of the buffer on the LG 4040b ( the small horizontal bar) . All I had was an empty horizontal box.

Now that I upgraded to 6.0.0.15 I get the status reported but the bar fluctuates wildly between 22-90% :o !

When I used to burn CD's with Nero 5x my buffer (on my Plextor 16/10/40 would almost never fluctuate at all and stay in the 90%+ range.
I had to go to Nero 6 because 5 wouldn't recognise my LG4040B.

How do I know if this is a Nero bug or if my LG is a lemon.

Your LG uses a much faster data rate than your Plextor, so that buffer is probably going to fluctuate a little more. Of course, this also depends on your computer and configuration too.

The used read buffer status bar is always 100% when I burn with LG 4040B on my slow Celeron 366 machine :(

I guess I should upgrade my pc ...

Like Ian said, it depends on your system as to how much of the buffer is used before it replenishes. Is your drive in DMA mode? What are your system specs?

I have a p4 2.2 with 1gig RDRAM, and all the drives in DMA mode and with nero 6.0.0.11 and .15 the buffer fluctuates between 93% and 98%.

By the way Canuk, my read bufffer is alway at 100% until the very end of the burn. It is supposed to be that way. Peter was talking about the small buffer indicator that is at the bottom of the window when you burn.

My system is:
P4 2.3 GHz
512MD cas 2 DDR
2x 60 Gig Maxtor (DMA-share IDE #1)
LG 4040B (DMA alone on IDE#2)

Radeon 8500 128mb
Audigy sound card
network card

As you say myckee, I wasn't talking about the read buffer which is at 100% for me too.

I really don't get it. :(

But I'm still getting those crazy fluctuations....even though I'm reading from an image on the HD...which can supply data way faster than the LG can consume it at 2X and 4x writing speed.

in your first post, it's not clear if your'e talking about the read buffer progress bar, or the drive's buffer precentage usage.

make sure your hard drive is defragged ???
make sure DMA is on ???

Thanks for the info, myckee.

The buffer of my LG4040B fluctuates between 92% and 98%.
