Plextor Premium VS. Lite-On 52x23x52x

Hi. What are your opinions on both drives? The Lite-On is cheaper but is cheaper better? Ian's reviews rated both of them a 9/10. Or should I just stick with my 48x24x48x CD-RW that came with my Dell? Thanks, Craig.

I have no idea what kind of drive your Dell has, but do you REALLY need a new writer? Do you really need to save 5-10 seconds off your burning times? While you'll see a big improvement rewriting at 32x vs. 24x, you won't be able to find 32x media for awhile yet. By the time that media is available, faster combo drives will be out and you'll probably be asking us (or emailing me) about them too.

Sorry, If I email you to much. Or post to much. My drive that came with Dell is a Hitachi/LG CD-RW. Didn't realize it was that much time. I guess it isn't worth it.

Unless you particularily care about the nifty features of the LiteON or Plextor drives, you might as well stick with your LG, since it is a fairly good drive. Don't worry, you'll have plenty of things to consider for upgrading to once DVD burners come down in price a little more! :wink:

Thats true. Maybe the DVD Burners will come down a $100 or less soon.

Yes, I also agree that it's probably best to stay with your current drive unless you really want to use CD-RW discs at 32x.

If you decide to upgrade, the decision pretty much comes down to whether you need the extra features of the Premium. If you don't need those features, the LTR-52327S would be the better choice, in my opinion.

LG Drives are usually good. They get the job done and complain a lot less. I have used 4 of them and still own 2 them. The only regrettable thing with LG drives I have owed had been the unavailability of DMA support (only PIO modes were available).

FWIW mentioning, One tecnician from Seoul LG support center repaired my 8081B (8x4x32) drive which was out of warranty for 4 months and didn't charge a cent for it. This was the first drive I owned and still keep around as a souvenier.

If anyone has data regarding the latest LG Combos / DVD Writers, please post. And Ian, do you have any plans review them? (It's no secret many consult your reviews to make thier buying decisions).

Here here for LG drives! I sent back a GCE-8320B, still under warranty, and received a replacement drive about 6 weeks later. Not a very fast turn-around, but decent enough. The replacement drive works fine! I'm very satisfied with LG. I only own LG burners: one GCE-8320B, one GCE-8240B, and two GCC-4320B.

It's better than no service. I don't mind waiting if things are done right...and they were.

So far, Maxtor has the quickest turn-around time I have seen. I received a replacement drive the same week that I called them!
