Not listed. (It's a drop-down choice, not a text entry.) GMA-4040B was the drive's original name in South Korea, Europe, etc.:

Well mine is labeled as GSA-4040B, that's what reads in the box. Bought here in Finland. =)

I live in Sweden and my box is also labeled GSA-4040B.
I have bought 20 Ritek G04 media and burnt a couple and it has worked great. :)

My ugly-orange RitekG04 4x DVD-R disks arrived today. They burn satisfactorily at 4x on the GSA-4040B.

Anyone having problems erasing DVD+RW discs with Nero? I tried 6.0.0.11 and 6.0.0.15 and it fails when doing a full erase.

I never done a full erase. I always do quick erase. What's the benefit you got to do full erase?

4x DVD-R ***working*** with LG GSA-4040B

Upgraded firmware to A301, using FujiFilm DVD-R 4x.

Worked for me.

No BS.

The Nero 6 versions are quite bugy. So I wouldn't blame the drive just by judging the nero 6 versions.

Yes, I later found that genuine 4x DVD-Rs from Ritek and FujiFilm burn correctly at 4x. Unfortunately, I learned that by first suffering through the ugly-orange so-called Riteks (which halfway through the spindle began refusing to burn at 4x), and the FujiFilms that were labeled as 4x but were actually (by media code) only 2x.

so the FujiFilm 4x were also "counterfit" or problematic? how come they were labeled as 4x if they were really 2x?

so in your experience, the LG drive is OK for 4x -R after all ?

FujiFilm manufactured the disks using its ordinary 2x technology, but then sold the disks in 10-pack boxes marked as 4x. You can decide whether that should be called "counterfeiting," "false advertising," or simply "unrepentant incompetence." I send a polite email to FujiFilm about the incident but never received any reply at all.

I now consider the LG GSA-4040B to be acceptable for 4x DVD-R burning. LG needs to continue to expand the number of inexpensive 4x disk manufacturers it supports, though. For now, I will stick with RITEKG04 from Meritline.com, and correctly labeled FujiFilm 4x 10-packs from Best Buy at 40% off (a recurring special offer at Best Buy).

Just bought a 10-pack of Memorex "4x" DVD-R for my LG 4040B. They will only allow 2x :x . I guess I will have to get some DVD+R's or one of the few types that are mentioned here that will burn at 4x. Why the he11 are DVD+R's generally more expensive than -R's (at least from what I've seen)?
