That's (Taiyo Yuden) DVD media info

Postby MikeTR on Mon Sep 01, 2003 9:09 am

Where can I find the manufacturers info on TY's That's DVD media?

I didn't find what I was looking for on http://www.t-yuden.com. I remember a Japanese site that had this info, but I forgot which one.

BTW, does anyone know the difference between these two dics:

I gather both can only be used for data and not for video (I guess you need these for video):

Try the following link:

http://www.startlab.co.jp/

The blue package has the regular disc while the other package is for the white printable top.

You can use either disk for Data or Video or whatever you want. It's just a way so that they can package the same disk up, and make you pay more for it because it supposedly is Better at Data/Audio/Video or whatever.

I saw that Memorex even has Picture CD's now. Same exact disks, just comes with some software, and you pay a ton extra.

As for the first group of two (the "data" discs), THey have different serial numbers. One serial number ends is DVDR-D47TY and the other is DVDR-D47WPY. Perhaps they were manufactured in different plants? or maybe it's just to tell the difference between the different insert colours? Either way, probably not a big deal.

As for the different between Data and Video discs, it's probably nothing. However it *may* mean that the video discs are for use in the stand alone home DVD recorders, similar to CD-R Audio discs are for use in Stand alone home CD-Recorder units. Just a thought.

Yep, that seems to be it. But does anyone know where to get info on That's DVD products from TY itself?

FYI, START Lab is the sales division of Taiyo Yuden, maybe you mean to find the following link for That's e-shop which is also managed by START Lab:

http://www.thatscd-r.jp/index.htm

or maybe you mean to find Taiyo Yuden's (the manufacturer) website:

http://www.yuden.co.jp

but it'll eventually direct you back to START Lab's site.

Thanks Telstar. I was in a hurry when posting my previous post. Only took a quick look at the site. The START Lab site seems to be the one.
Annoying interface though, with all the internal links popping up a new screen instead of opening up in the same window.
