I would like to start using DVD+Rs instead of DVD-Rs but DVD+Rs don't play in my DVD player.
I read somewhere that the primary reason for DVD+R's incompatibility is that every DVD-like thing has a "flag" indicating its type. Older players simply don't recognize the DVD+R type and refuse to play the disk. Supposedly, one HP model of DVD+R/RW writer gets around this incompatibility merely by always setting the "flag" to DVD-ROM! Certain other DVD+R/RW writers, reportedly, allow the user/owner to set the "flag" as he or she wishes.
So the question is, How do I know if a given drive, such as the LG GSA-4040B, allows one to set the "flag" on a DVD+R? I would like to try this, to see if by setting the "flag" to DVD-ROM perhaps my player will then play a DVD+R disk.
Why do I want to switch from DVD-R to DVD+R? Because the GSA-4040B burns DVD+Rs at 4x, but DVD-Rs at only 2x. (See separate thread.)
