Burning dvd-rw cd's problems

Postby omega on Tue Aug 19, 2003 2:11 pm

hello

my friend jut bought a 16x Philips dvd-rw and he is having a problem burning dvd-rw/dvd-r's. Nero disables the BURN option so he cannot burn, same with adaptec easy cd creator. The dvdr/rw is a Memorex green wrapping 2.4x speed. Is he suppose to do somthing to the dvd before he can use it, or is it like cdrs just open pup-in and burn away??

thank you.

It sounds to me that your friend is trying to burn a dvd-r/rw with a dvd read only drive. Since there are no 16x burners as of now the fastest ones currently advalible are 4x until the Plextor 8x +rw drive comes out in a few weeks.

I was thinking it sounded more like he has a bundled OEM license that only works on the drive Nero came with. Nero doesn't even show CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drives in the "Choose Recorder" dialog, but it does show unlicensed burners with the international symbol for "no" superimposed. You know, the red circle/slash like this but with the drive substituted for the cigarette:

It might also be that omega's friend is using an older drive that isn't supported by the version of Nero he has.

However, since there is no such thing as a 16x DVD burner, you may be right.

Omega, what version of Nero are you using, and what is listed in the "Recorder"->"Choose Recorder" dialog?

P.S. Quitting smoking is not only good for your health, it is also good for the health of your optical drives. That greasy, nasty nicotime/tar residue that gets all over everything when you smoke can do a number on the lens of your burner, sending it an early grave.
