Unable to overburn in Nero 5.5.10.35.

Postby pranav81 on Mon Aug 11, 2003 2:19 am

Dear all,
Hi.I just upgraded to Nero 5.5.10.35 from 5.5.10.17.The problem is that I have successfully burnt a CD using overburn feature of Nero in Nero 5.5.10.17.The CD was 700MB/80 Min and I successfully burnt it to 721 MB.
But now when I try to burn a CD of any little more than 703 MB,in Nero 5.5.10.35,Nero doesnt ask me if I want to overburn, but instead shows me a dialogue saying that there is not enough space and ejects the medium.
I checked the settings under Expert features, but everything is right.I tried changing the setting to 81.30.00 without any positive results, previously it was set to 82.30.00.
I have not yet uninstalled this version and tried it on the older version.
Waiting for some posts...
Thanks in advance...

You could also try installing the latest version of Nero: 5.5.10.42, which is available at www.nero.com. I have been able to select "overburn" using that version.

Postby pranav81 on Mon Aug 25, 2003 12:33 am

Dear all,
I downloaded and installed the latest Nero 5.5.10.50 and tried overburning using it,but in vain.Believe me I had successfully overburned many CD's using Nero,I just dont remember which version I did.I thin it was 5.5.10.15a and when I upgraded I am not able to overburn at all.Nero doesnt ask if it should overburn, just ejects out the CD saying there is not enough space.
Waiting for some solution.Till then I will remove and reinstall Nero.
See ya guys later,

pranav81,

Take a careful look at my Nero overburning advice and see if there isn't some step that you missed:

90 and 99 minute discs are nonstandard lengths, and will theoretically hold 791 MB and 870 MB of data respectively. They will always be recognized as 80 minute discs because this is the maximum length allowed by the standards. A disc over 700 MB (80 minutes) must use Nero overburn settings to allow it to be burned. Use the following settings for a data disk:

1. Don't use the Nero Wizard. It will not allow overburning as it defaults to Track-At-Once. If it is active, close it.

2. Multisession | No Multisession must be checked

3. ISO | Check Mode 1 and Joliet

4. Burn | Check Write and Finalize CD (No further writing possible). Write method must be Disk-At-Once.

5. In the main menu, File | Preferences | Expert Settings check "Enable overburn disk-at-once burning". If you are using a 90 minute disc, you can set the Maximum CD length to 90 minutes 0 seconds 0 frm. Hit Apply, then OK. If you are using a 650 or 700 MB data disc, use the overburn capacity test in Nero CD Speed to estimate the maximum overburn capacity. If for some reason the test doesn't work, create an audio overburn test disc to determine the overburn capacity. Use the determined overburn capacity in Expert Settings.

6. The Red and Yellow marker settings in File | Preferences | General Settings have no effect on burning or overburning. They are there just as a visual aid.

These settings should allow you to attempt an overburn if your recorder and the media support it.

To create an audio overburn test disc:

Most 80 minute CDR's can overburn from about 81.5 to 82.5 minutes or so. If you can spare a disc for testing, record an audio disc with extended length source material beyond the expected overburn capacity. When the burn eventually fails, the point at which it fails will be the overburn capacity of that disc. The audio disc will still be playable, and the total minutes of the disc is the total overburn capacity.

Dear Inertia,
Thanks a lot for the great tips.I am now able to overburn
successfully. But I still dont understand which step I missed.
I used both modes,Mode 1 and Mode2/XA and was able to overburn
successfully in both modes. As you know,Mode 1 and Mode2/XA are
one and the same when used to burn computer data, and change
when used to burn discs like video discs.
Anyways,I am happy that people like you are in the CDRLabs
forum helping others.
Thanks a lot again,
see you later,
