8x media ?

Postby MonteLDS on Sun Aug 17, 2003 11:37 am

Let see Sony came out w/ the 4x -R and it was in Oct? last year and now about that same time the 8x b +R burner is out.. so if i understand right.. and if the 8x media comes out in the same ammount of time after the burner as the 4x media did, this mean we will see 8x media next year??

I'll just wait to watch the 8x burner price drop...

anyone else?

Verbatim will supposedly have some at the IFA in a couple weeks.

But the question remains as to when it will enter into full production, how far along the other manufacturers are and when it will actually get distributed.

4X +RW media was shown off months ago... is there any on the market in mass quantity? Nope.

Up here (Canada) we still can't buy 24x RW discs yet, let alone 32x.

Heck, I went out looking for some 12x CD-RW discs this weekend, and had a hard time finding even those. :-? The selection was truly lousy, with most of the stock being 4x. :o The 12x I could find was almost exclusively the Memorex/Infodisc garbage  , with only one store carrying TDK/CMC as an alternative. I've also noticed that the 10 pack of Verbatim 24x that used to go for $9 online is now selling for $16~$17. What's up with that??

It was interesting though, to see how much DVD media has taken over the shelf space that used to be reserved for CD media. It has been a while since I was out in a retail store looking for media, and the change was striking.

Speaking of high CD-RW prices, this is ridiculous:

1-pack Imation 10X CD-RW Disc - $5.99 at Buy.com
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?s ... c=101&sp=2

1-pack TDK 10X CD-RW Disc - $5.99 at Buy.com
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?s ... c=101&sp=1

$6 for one disc...are they kidding?! I'd rather stick with this Sony 10X CD-RW disc - http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?s ... c=101&sp=1 - it's only $1.48.

I remember buying a 5 pack of Verbatim 74 min 10X CD-RW for $4.95 or $5.95 with free shipping at buy.com
They have some good deals, but they also have ridiculous prices in many cases, as you pointed out.

Radio Shack is a prime exapmle of ridiculous media prices.
Their CD-R and DVD-R prices were/are bordering on the obscene in many cases.
I haven't checked in the past few months, but they used to have very high prices!
Burners only:
Pioneer DVR-115D
Pioneer DVR-111D
Plextor PX-716A TLA0304
Plextor PX-716A same TLA

Wow, that is terrible! :o

At those prices, I'd rather just use CD-R discs for everything.
