How do I use HD-Burn in Nero 6?

Postby dragonfireblade on Thu Aug 14, 2003 3:39 am

I am trying to to figure out how to actually make and HD disc in Nero 6. I wanted to make HD-Burn Video, but I am not sure how to use it.

Can I make a 1 HD-disc SVCD out of 2 full CD bin and cues or can I make and SVCD from two 812MB SVCD mpegs?

Is it possible to load multiple cue sheets (and bins) for one compilation? This can be done easy in a prog like Fireburner but seems impossible with nero. Is there a way to do this; HD-Burn even DVD if not possible?

I am not sure how to exactly use HD-burn. do I just make a 1.4GB compilation and then burn like normal?

When you first start Nero, or when you select File->New, you'll see the New Compilation window. At the top left hand corner you'll see a combo box that allows you to select either CD, DVD, or HD-BURN. It took me quite a while to figure this out when I first got my Optorite. :p

As for your question regarding SVCD, I have not tried burning a SVCD disc myself using HD-BURN, but do note that currently HD-BURN discs can only be read on the drive itself.

HD-Burn missing

I tried that but all I see is CD and DVD, no HD in the list. That is strange that it is not there. I tried changing to different recorders (CD-RW) but the HD option never shows up. What can I do? Are you also using Nero 6?

What drive do you own? HD burn is a hardware feature that is only supported by a very few select drives.

Okay, just checking. You didn't list your burner in the thread, and when you mentioned that you tried to use HD-BURN on different recorders it sounded like you might be thinking it should work on any burner.

If you have the Optorite then Nero ought to automatically configure itself to give the HD-BURN option. I'm not sure why it didn't, but there are a couple of things I can think of that you might want to try.

First, exit all Nero programs. Then edit the registry and open up the key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ahead\Nero - Burning Rom\Recorder\OPTORITE DD0203". Write down the value of the named value "MediaTypes" and then delete this named value. Start Nero Burning ROM and it should restore the MediaTypes named value. Check to see if the new value is different than the old value and, if so, see if you can now select HD-BURN.

If that doesn't work, then you can manually enable all burning modes by editing the named value "bShowAllCompilationTypes" in the key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ahead\Nero - Burning Rom\General". Change it from 0 to 1. Again, do this with all Nero programs shut down, otherwise your change won't stick. Now start Nero Burning ROM, and you should see HD-BURN in the drop-down list above the compilation types and will be able to select HD-BURN-Video:

Note that this second method is a bit of a hack, since it will display all compilation types for every drive you have, without regard for whether or not the drives support all those modes. The above screen shot was taken with my old Yamaha CRW-3200EZ selected as the recorder, and it definitely does not support HD-BURN.

Thanks a lot, but I suspect that Nero was to blame. I did an upgrade from version 5.5 to 6 last time and maybe something screwed up. I uninstalled nero completely and installed it again. This time it worked! Thanks for the help though, I just assumed that I would have to select HD-Burn when I chose burn from normal CD mode. I would not have figured this out without your guy's help!

You're welcome, and I'm glad you got it working properly without the hack.
