Got my DRX-510UL from Outpost ($299 after MIR)

Postby tazdevl on Wed Jul 02, 2003 12:28 pm

$299 after MIR (+tax). Mentioned it in the hot deals section. They don't have it in stock and I don't think they've picked up on their mistake. So you could get the same deal. Everyone other reputable merchant is selling the drive for $375 and up.

Looks pretty sweet. Tell you one thing, that enclose is a lot smaller than the external enclosures you can buy. Only thing I see as a negative is lack of fan and the case is plastic which won't dissipate heat very well.

Anyone know how to get the enclosure off the external burners? No screws or anything like and the rubber feet that run up the sides prevent you from opening it up along the sides. Seems like you might be able to get it off from the back.

I'd assume that they just smacked the internal drive into the enclosure no? That's what I did with my 510A before I got this sweet deal.

Congrats. Not sure how many people got in on this deal.

PM me if you figured how to open up the enclosure safely.

Outpost.com cranked their prices back up to $399. Can you say pricing error? At least they honored their mistake.

Looks like we saved a few bucks. :D

Hmmm, well how about that? At last I got a good deal on something! :D

I think the way to take the enclosure apart is to pop or slide off the four rubber feet, I bet underneath you'll find screws. No guarantees, though! I actually wanted the external version, since I'm out of room in my computer case.

I've had my DRX-510UL for a while now it's been working fine. The Veritas RecordNow software also works very well but it is not as flexible as I would like. Are there any other options? Roxio does not support this drive yet, and Nero only supports the DRX-510A internal version currently.

Incorrect. Are you using the latest update? No issues with Nero and my 510UL. I've burned about 75 DVDs and 15 CDRs with it.

Mine is also seen as a 510A. It isn't an issue since the drive is the exact same thing as a 510A. Hell they both use the same firmware.

FYI if you're using Nero that was bundled with a different drive, in many cases the manufacturer cripples Nero which prevents you from using it with another drive.

Rebate Rejected

Postby andreos on Thu Aug 07, 2003 3:53 pm

Just got notifaction that my rebate application has been rejected. It says,

"We apologize for the misunderstanding, but your rebate is invalid because the store you purchased this product from does not honor this particular promotion. A postcard acknowledging your invalid reason will be mailed to you."

Has anyone purchasing from Outpost had their rebate go through?

Mine went through no problem, took 3 weeks. Did you include a copy of the UPC code and receipt?

Yes, I did everything right, have done many rebates and this is the first ever to be turned down. Not sure what to do at this point.
