In House Review - TEAC DV-W50D 4x DVD±RW

Postby Ian on Mon Aug 11, 2003 10:59 am

To kick off the week, we're taken a look at TEAC's new dual format DVD writer, the DV-W50D. This new drive offers some pretty impressive specs including 4x DVD±R, 2.4x DVD+RW and 2x DVD-R writing speeds and a maximum DVD read speed of 12x. The DV-W50D also includes features like 16x CD writing speeds, 32x CD read speeds, support for buffer underrun protection and a software bundle including Nero Express 6.

In this review we take a look at some of the features found on the DV-W50D and then see how it compares to Sony's newest DVD±RW drive, the DRU-510A. Is the DV-W50D the fastest DVD writer around? You'll have to read the review to find out.

After reading the small introduction I was thinking, "Is this the so expected review of the rebadeged Pioneer A06?" But then I saw the specs and with 2.4x on -r I am forced to conclude that this is not the rebadeged drive? Am I Correct?

Hadn't had the time to look the full review yet... Maybe the answer lies there... If so, my apologies....

The drive does seem to be based on the A06. As far as it being a straight rebadge, TEAC isn't saying so I'll leave that judgement up to you.

The drive writes to DVD+RW at 2.4x and DVD-RW at 2x. I made a typo.

Ahhhhh   eh eh eh sorry abaut that...

I'm already reading the review... It does seem like an A06 doesn't it? The previous model, for what I've read, is a A05, an many people say that this new model is indeed a A06...

Guess w'll find out in a while ;) :D

No Optorite yet. However we have the LG and a few NEC based drives.

Oh yeah. Forgot to change the DNS info when we changed providers. Thanks for the reminder.

Yes, yes, DVDrlabs.com would be a good ideia.... Well, in order to simplify, why not crate, within the main page, a section like the one that exists today, with all the main news (CD or DVD), and then inside the reviews, articles,..., create one section for CD and another for DVD.

I believe it would maintain the simplicity of the site (witch for me is a very positive thing because it's more user friendly) and would increse the sites eficiency.

Ian what you think? This is just an idea, but who knows.......

That might be a good idea once we get more content.
