DVD Burner Speeds

Postby craiger on Sun Aug 10, 2003 7:06 pm

Hi. What speeds will they top out at? Same as CD-R/RW? Also will their always be DVD/CD-RW combos, if so would we ever see a 16x-20x DVD Burner and a 52x32x52x CD-RW combo drive? Thanks, Craig.

Hmm...RPM wise, it'll probably have to end up spinning about the same as modern 52x CD-RW drives..not sure what that works out to in DVD terms.

Speaking of 20x DVDs, the controller chips have been around forever, where the heck are the drives?

Let me dust off the crytal ball here.... No seriously, I've seen a few product timelines showing 12x and 16x DVD writers by the end of 2004. Will we actually see these drives by then, or is it just wishful thinking? The magic 8 ball.. err crystal ball.. says "Cannot predict now".

It's very possible some of the new DVD writers will support 52x writing and 32x rewriting. The new Lite-On and Plextor writers already write at 40x and rewrite at 24x.
