It's like with any OEM drive. The tech support and warranty isn't guaranteed by the manufacturer. In most cases you're going to have to go through the retailer that sold it to you.

Actually if you buy the drive in Europe it doesn't work like Ian said. You actually have the 2 years warranty and all the suport (firmwares). The real difference from the retail version is software and some hardware that the package doesn't bring (like media,...)

This is what happened when I bought my Plextor CD-Rw. I bought the OEM version that came with a box labeled Plextor drive, the manual instructions, a cd with Plextools, the emergency ejec tool, the audio cable and the IDE cable. So it came with all the things I really needed.
But for what I know this only happenes in Europe.. In US (and probably in other countries outside Europe) it works like Ian said.

Hope this info has been useful. Godd Luck!

If you are in Canada (I also assume for the whole N.American), you can call up Pioneer for tech support even with your OEM Pioneer burner (for example, the DVR-106D). You can also deal RMA with them directly. On Pioneer's web site, they provide firmware support as well for the OEM Pioneer burner (for example, DVR-106D).

Does anyone knows what are the speed limits in this drive when it comes to video extraction?

If I remember right, DVD (dual and single layer) are limited to only 2x.

No idea about VCD.

If you scroll down to the middle of the following linked page, you'll find all the max read speed of this model. I'd assume that DVD-Video is included in the category of DVD-ROM:

Ah yeah, 4x for Video CD. That's probably playback though. Not rip speed.

I was curious about DVD rip speed... Of course it's like the A05 and many others... Limitted to 2x. :x

Hope someone can overcome this...  eh eh eh...

The A05/105 can be uncapped to rip at 12x.
