Toshiba Speed Hacked Results - Fastest DVD Rip?

Just tested my Toshiba SD-M1712 DVD movie rip speeds in CD Speed 2.02

Used the movie Star Wars: Episode 1 - Disk 1

Results are as follows

With just RPC 1 patched firmware:

3.58x Average Speed

With speed hacked RPC 1 firmware:

Start 4.22x
End 4.33x
Average 7.56x

and hit a top rip speed of 10x

The Movie was 7.82GB, Dual Layer

another side note, this thing rips very, very fast, and at full 16x dvd speed its almost not even audible

It ripped the entire Dogma Movie without compression with DVD Shrink 2.3 in 11 Minutes 4 Seconds

I think Hijacker and Neo did a nice job. The Toshiba drives have received a fair amount of positive feedback, and with the artificial rip-speed limit and RPC-2 protection removed, it seems like a very nice drive. I would consider it if I were in the market for a new drive.

yeah, i'm thinking of getting a DVD-ROM drive, and this is one of the candidates.
i guess the deliberation is between the Toshiba SD-M1712 and the JLMS 166S.
the only thing is, the Toshiba doesn't support KProbe and the Lite-On does, a big plus for the Lite-On.
i think that would be the deal breaker for me, except that i don't have a DVD burner and probably won't for a long time so maybe it shouldn't matter to me.

but like VEFF says in another topic, i think i would prefer to keep the reading and writing duties for spearate drives, and have a DVD-ROM for reading/testing.

then again maybe your ideas is a good one - use the Lite-On burner for writing and KProbe testing, the Toshiba DVD-ROM for reading/ripping...

like i said, in the meantime it's hypothetical.

which DVDROM do you like better - the Toshiba or the JLMS?

i love my toshiba drive, like i said earlier, at full speed, its not even audible, my 120mm fan blowing 121CFM is louder, even on lowest rpm speed

course loudness is only a concern for some, but another thing is the rip speed, i mean for a dual layer dvd it peaked at 10x, thats saying tons

im gonna rip a single layer dvd to see how fast that gets up to, im guessing 16x

ive heard the litey based dvd drives get fairly loud

the JLMS XJ-166S is the Lite-On 166S.
same thing, JLMS is Lite-On!
JLMS = JVC Lite-On Manufacutring and Sales (or something like that), it's a joint partnership between Lite-On and JVC.

Try different discs - a lot of them are badly ballanced, so they vibrate while spinning very fast...

how could you tell that it was used? OEM should still be a new drive.

Usually when customer returns a drive which is in perfect working condition(but might be mounted, with minor marks), the store will probably repackage it and put them for sale again.
