cfitz wrote:I think Hijacker and Neo did a nice job. The Toshiba drives have received a fair amount of positive feedback, and with the artificial rip-speed limit and RPC-2 protection removed, it seems like a very nice drive. I would consider it if I were in the market for a new drive.

yeah, i'm thinking of getting a DVD-ROM drive, and this is one of the candidates.
i guess the deliberation is between the Toshiba SD-M1712 and the JLMS 166S.
the only thing is, the Toshiba doesn't support KProbe and the Lite-On does, a big plus for the Lite-On.
i think that would be the deal breaker for me, except that i don't have a DVD burner and probably won't for a long time so maybe it shouldn't matter to me.

we now carry the buslink, cendyne, sony, tdk, pioneer at staples, all dvd-/+rw drives

Optorite?
Optorite DD0203 +/- drive
hoxlund wrote:i love my toshiba drive, like i said earlier, at full speed, its not even audible, my 120mm fan blowing 121CFM is louder, even on lowest rpm speed
hoxlund wrote:hmm, i wonder since i speed hacked the drive, now when it spins it sounds like a jet, you can tell its off rotation
hoxlund wrote:no it was very quiet for like the first day, but since i speed hacked it, it gets very loud, almost like a bad drive
and when i got it from newegg, it wasn't new, they sold them as oem from there site
ordering the jlms right now, the retail version
