Please help me

Postby puppetmaster on Fri Aug 01, 2003 6:22 pm

I need to order my computer this weekend in order to build it and get it to college in time. For the past month or so I just thought I would buy the PlexWriter Premium, then I found an extra $100 lying around the house yesterday and decided to buy a DVD burner. I am really sorry asking this kind of question, but I just don't have the time to do the reseach myself. What are the top burners out and is there one above the rest?

A lot of people like, and recommend Sony Dual format burners. From my limited experience with the DRU-510A, it burns well. Ian also was impressed by it in his review. It is one of the more expensive burners, but is a good choice...

I'd also recommend the NEC ND-1300A Dual format burner, or one of its OEM's from TDK or Iomega...

I, myself, ordered a Lite-ON LDW-401S which is a single format (+) burner, but it's incredibly cheap and will hopefully get the job done.

What is the deal with this OptoRite, it looks like it has the faster CD speeds than the NEC in addition to an 8MB buffer. Also, Newegg says it does -RW at 4x, but the box in the pic says 2x... what is up with that?

I'd tend to trust the specs on the optorite site which say 2x -RW
