CRC problem only with the burner (Optorite DD0203)

Postby Ma1215 on Mon Jul 28, 2003 3:00 am

I recently bought an Optorite DD0203. I've only been burning CD-R's lately since I am waiting for my order of blank DVD's. I'm not sure if the drive is just really picky with media or the drive itself is defective. Here are the steps and results:

1. I record a CD and enable verify data after recording
2. The following error comes up: Read error on CD file (Status summary: file = inaccessible)
3. I try copying the files that failed and Windows states there is a Data Error (CRC)
4. I use another drive to read the data and the files copy fine and their CRC's match original files

software: Nero 6.0.0.9
drive firmware: 2.09
blank cd brand: GQ 1-52x 700MB (Cheap Fry's Electronics brand. 50 for $7)

I haven't had problems with this brand with my old drive (Plextor 12x SCSI). Any clues? Should leave my old cd writer in addition to the dvd burner or dump the Optorite altogether?

You can do a surface scan, but it sounds like it might be bad batch of media. Other thing it could be is if the data itself is corrupt that you're copying, if so, the verification check wouldn't catch it.

I suspect the problem is Nero, try burning the same file with BGold.

seems like i'm getting better luck with TDK's, though I still have come across the same problems, just less often (especially when written at lower speeds)
