anyways is it bound to be crap like their older models that lan reviewed? since he hasnt done any new ones im guessing they hate him now.

The new name for Acer is Benq.

Also, I think thier drives suck, I had an old Acer 1640A 16x40 DVD-ROM drive, and it was good, until about 2 years into use when I needed to use the emergency eject and my drive has been screwed up ever since then. Of course, I replaced the drive shortly after that problem.

lol nah... i was doing my cdr/w question posting at afterdawn, but i just discovered cdrlabs a few days ago for looking for a new cd-rw drive... im making a thread shortly with all the details of why, etc

anyways thx for ur reply, the details on the Acer sound convincing and i can get it retail for $69 CND.

I would recomend a Lite-On. They are 100 times better and not that much more expensive, if more expensive at all.

OK, I just saw the other thread saying you don't want a Lite-On. Then I would recomend the Plextor Premium that you mentioned in the other thread.

I am using one of the newer benq drives the 4824p and it is not that bad of a drive. In the time that I have used it the drive has not produced a single coster on me. this dosn't mean thougt that the 5224p is as good as the 4824p.
