Sony dru-510a reads slow

Postby deadly on Thu Jul 03, 2003 4:34 am

Have Sony Dru-510a reads dvd's slow...tested with Decrypter and "Nero CD Speed"
Drive Specs. says will read DVD-ROM @ 12x MAX
---------------------------------------
reads DVD-DATA @ 4.0x use nero to burn to DVD-ROM but same thing
reads DVD-VIDEO @ 2.0x
-----------------------------------------
was wondering if ther is a firmware hack to unlock the drive so it can read at a faster speed?

Have WinXP up to date, updated bios, drive is master..only drive on IDE channel..used IDE Cable that came burner.

LOL. No.

Couple things to check.. is DMA enabled in the device manager? Is the disc you're reading scratched?

In all honesty, I rarely even look at benchmarking tools. If it seems like the drive is working OK, fine by me. People get too hung up in benchmarks.

I just did a quick check on a Video DVD-R and it read @ a little over 2X. I'm running a backup right now so that might be holding it back. I did notice that it had FW revision 1.0B.

12X read speed pertains to pressed discs.

I have a cheapo Liteon 163D with a BIOS region hack... I use that to do any ripping, nice thing is that takes care of any region issues on the front end.
