DVD Decrypter slow to read on Lite-On LDW-400D

Postby Benhermies on Tue Jul 01, 2003 2:34 pm

When I'm backing up a DVD with DVD Decrypter with my Lite-On LDW-400D DVD-RW drive to the hard drive it will top out at 2x reading speed. But when I try backing up a DVD on my other computer with an LG DVD-ROM drive, I've seen it reach over 8x speed. Is ithere some kind of inhibitor in the Lite-On drive that makes it read slowly or is it just a setting I can change in DVD Decrypter?

Please help.

Thanx

Many drives will read DVD-Video slower than Data DVD's because when you are watching a movie, you only need 1x, so it brings down the speed to 1x or 2x. There is no way around this as far as I know, you would need to get a different drive. My LTD-163D will go up to top speed (16x) on video dvd's as well as data.

aviationwiz about how long it takes your drive to backup a DVD. I have that same drive and it takes forever, maybe its broken. I'm using firmware GHR8.
Still burning with my LTR-16101B.

I'm not sure, but JLMS (Lite-ON & JVS) might have implemented a rip speed limit with their latest firmwares. If you flash to an older version does it rip faster?

I'll check, originally it came with GHR3 so I'll check with those. Another last question and I'm sorry for using this thread, can this drives be used vertically?

I have the (Liteon) JLMS XJ-HD163 with the latest GH5S firmware. It works and extracts just fine. Most slowdowns in extraction speed are caused by low quality media containing lots of errors. DVD-ROM's and CD-ROM(RW's) work the same way in this regard, slowing when trying to read errors unreadable at the higher speeds.

The XJ-HD163 / 163D Drive can be used vertically.

the LiteOn LDW-400D is the same as the Sony Drives. some say it's a rebadged Sony. and sony drives are knows to max at 2x when reading dvd video.

just my 2 cents.
