Thanks for the heads up...need a el-cheapo burner for my room-mates computer...this'll do.

Hopefully they've improved from the 48125W POS's...
Or maybe I'll just get the 54x Mitsumi for it. I KNOW that has good burn quality, even if it is extremely picky about media...

What's wrong with the 48125W? Hmm...

1. Never got over 40x Burn with any cd (without errors)
2. Only 40x/24x rated Fuji's burned w/o errors (if lucky)
3. Some discs burned at 8x were unreadable.
4. TWO died on me...

Basically, media compatiablity blows...

Sorry it took so long to reply...kinda "lost" this thread

Sorry you've had bad luck with your 48125W's. I've had one for over a year and burned over 200+ CD-R's with it. It's working fine now in my backup PC. Moved up to a 52246S earlier this year.

If you have local Micro Center in your area, you may check the deal
on BusLink 52x24x52 CD-RW driver. They are labeled as "Smart Burn",
or "JustLink", or "Buffer Under Run Protection". Some of them may
be made by LiteOn.

$69.99 Original price
$30.00 Instant rebate
$20.00 Manufacture rebate
$ 5.00 Micro Center Money Coupon (for purchase over $25.00).
--------------
$14.99 Final

By the way, I have no experience about how good BusLink for their
rebate. You may want to check before you buy.

I have the 52x Buslink. It said Justlink on the box, and it had an OEM AOpen drive inside.

Yup,

Thats because JustLink is Aopen Technology. Or else it's technology made by someone else and shared throughout the industry. With the exception of Lite-On, Plextor, and maybe Yamaha.

JustLink and JustSpeed are Ricoh's contributions to buffer underrun protection and optimum write speed control respectively. :)
My solution to the Plextor vs. Lite-On debate: Buy 'em both! :)
