How many of you use MM jukebox for any purpose? I downloaded the free version a couple of days ago and was thinking of buying the full version.

POS Software. I wouldn't take it if you gave it to me, let alone spend money on it.

I love it. I make compilation disks where I take songs from a number of CDs and put them together. For this you need volume leveling or "normalization" or you are forever fiddling with the volume control. The extra cost "Plus" version of MMJB provides this function.

I'll leave it to tazdevl to suggest something that works better. Unfortunately, the opinion is stated without an alternative.

I've never used Music Match Jukebox and don't know anything about it, but Nero, CDex and Exact Audio Copy (EAC), among others, can all normalize audio volume when extracting and/or burning audio compilations. CDex and EAC are both free.

I think cfitz has posted that about Nero's normalizing capability before. I have Nero, I've got to snoop around and find out how to excercize it.

Of course, MMJB is a tool to use if you want to play songs from your hard drive while doing other stuff like posting in forums. MMJB also has a lookup tagging capability to put the tags on your songs after you rip them. These are two other features that I don't think that Nero has.

I have purchased MusicMatch Jukebox Plus version 7.5 last year and I use it to play audio cds. Although I find it annoying that it does not display the CD information ( album name, artist name, track name, etc. - everytime I get "Track 3: unknown artist, etc ) If I use Windows Media Player it does display this information, incuding album art. I have converted some songs to Windows media file ( 192 KBps ) and I use MMJ to play it.

Interesting thing, I got an e-mail from them telling me to upgrade to version 8.0, so I downloaded the program ( it turns out to be an installer ) and it starts to install version 8. Half-way through it stops with a warning that my key is not verified for version 8 and if I proceed with the install, I'll get version 8.0 basic only AND lose all of my Plus privilages. VERY NICE of them.

I sent them an e-mail complaining about this and asking them them why I couldn't upgrade from version 7.5 Plus to version 8.0 Plus - well its now been 3 weeks and they still have not responded. ( I also sent them an e-mail last year about a program that I downloaded from their site didn't work and asking for help - they never responded to that e-mail either which leads me to believe their customer support SUCKS!!! )

I agree that MMJB's customer relations lack a little bit. However, when I bought the Plus version of 7.5 for $20 it was very clear to me that was all I could expect. It was my choice to decline the $40 upgrade which would have included all future versions. I just reviewed their site again and it is clear that to download the 8.0 plus, you should have purchased first or go to the click for those that have rights to all future versions.

It's been a while since I've used it to extract songs to HDD. However, I kind of recall that some did not have tags. I used the database lookup to get the CCDB tags on most occasions. I think that I might have a CD or two that are from "botique sources" which neither have tags nor are in the CCDB database (that may be redundant).

I guess if I had it to do again, I'd have gone with the $40 lifetime. However, tags aren't that big an issue for me. Neither the player in my truck nor my boombox has the capability to display them. Furthermore, I know what they are when I hear them.

Yeah, but I bought the retail version at Future Shop - "MusicMatch - Professional Edition" - $74.99 + tax ( CAN ) - ( about $50 US ). Which also included DFX ( and its key ) and Sure Thing CD labeler. It sounded to me at the time that it had the lifetime upgrades included in the package.

I use Exact Audio Copy and oggenc (Ogg Vorbis) or mpcenc (Musepack) for encoding. Free high quality solution.
