Why are most of my burns "underrun" the buffer?

Okay, i've noticed it happens too often. Maybe even every burn.
This burn for instance is 40X with DAO of a DIVX movie, three txt files and one installer file..

Though the burn came out Ok it annoys me because it takes about 5 minutes for such burn.

There's no problem there. The "Buffer Underrun Protection Activated" message means that buffer Underrun Protection is turned on and ready. It will appear before any burn when a drive has Buffer Underrun Protection.

But dude, it doesn't make sence..
The burn is at 85%. I took the picture just when the writer ran out of buffer memory.
It happend twice during that burn.

If buffer underrun protection is invoked, it means that there is a data throughput bottleneck in your system.

Things to try before burning:

Defrag hard drive(s).
Close background applications with Ctrl-Alt-Del except for Explorer, Systray & Nero. Don't multitask while burning.
Delete files in Windows/Temp directory and Nero temporary directory.
Make sure DMA is enabled for the burner.
Make sure there is adequate free space on the hard drive for temporary files.

After further thought, I am wondering if it could be that the hard drive doesn't have DMA enabled. It doesn't look like a problem with DMA on the burner.

Then something was wrong; burning at 48x should take somewhere between 2:30 and 2:45. Try enabling DMA like was suggested above. You can find instructions in the FAQ forum here at CDRLabs.

To just take a "picture" of the Nero dialogue box, just make sure it has the windows "focus", then hit "ALT + PrtSc", and it will only copy the selected window.

How is that a good point? if the drive is limiting the speed then it's not really burning at 48x. If it takes 10 minutes to burn 700MB, then you're burning at ~8x average speed.

70,000KB/min [b]/[/b] 60sec/min = 1166.666KB/sec

1166.666KB/sec [b]/[/b] 150KB/sec = 7.7x speed

True, but Nero might display 48x burning speed, so it would appear as if it were burning at 48x even though it was really burning at some other speed.
