Memorex new CDRW UltraSpeed 700MB experience

I'm wondering if anyone has yet tried the new Memorex CDRW (16 to 24X) rewritables having a capacity of 700MB. I have yet to find a store (outside of Memorex) who has them available. Here is the reference to it: http://www.memorex.com/products/product ... 57&oid=529

I'd be quite tempted to get a couple of boxes if anyone can recommend them...

No-no, not at all! Memorex uses very nice CD cases which don't have to actually contain memorex media.... you can buy the CDs with the cases, and then through the CDs out or add them to your coaster collection!

Thanks a lot to all of you! Much appreciated... My LiteOn 52242S retail, just purchased last week, came with only one high speed (10x) CD-RW and was anxious to try UltraSpeed media which seemed near impossible to find locally (Montreal) or even at the few online Canadian stores I know.

I now know I'll get the Verbatim UltraSpeed as it seems the consensus...

Yes. Infodisc is the guilty party, at least in my experience with Memorex CD-RW.

Well, I bought on Saturday a pack of 5 Memorex 24x Ultra speed CD-RW.
I got home and was anxious to try to use the full capacities of my Plextor 48x24x48x. Well i was anxious indeed and the result could be worst.... Power Calibration error... I've used Nero and Plextools and it keeps reporting the same error... Anyone has use this media sucefuly? By the way, I updated Nero (Plextools was already the latest version) and my firmware was also the last one, so I’m out of ideas... Has anyone had the same problem?... Guess I’ll have to go back to my 4x cd-rw... Dammmm

As you already know, having posted in this thread, many people (probably everyone who has tried them ) have had trouble with Memorex CD-RW discs. They are absolutetly terrible discs and should be avoided at all costs.

No, you can get some Verbatim 24x CD-RW discs. They actually work.

Better yet, can you purchase from Spain? In Europe you can get the 80-minute 24x Verbatim CD-RW, while here in America we are still (last time I checked) limited to the 74-minute versions.

First of all, all Memorex CD-RW discs are total 100% garbage. That includes the Memorex Ultra Speed discs that you bought. Secondly, since you have a Plextor drive, you must only buy Plextor recommended CD-RW media. For Ultra Speed CD-RW discs, the only brands you can buy are Verbatim DataLifePlus, Yamaha, or Mitsubishi Chemical (all those brands are made by Mitsubishi Chemical). If you find other Ultra Speed CD-RW discs that are made by Mitsubishi Chemical, those should work too. Verbatim DataLifePlus Ultra Speed CD-RW discs are preferred by most around here (U.S.A) because they have a good low price and provide decent quality (and will work with your Plextor drive). The Yamaha discs aren't popular (at least here) because of their high price tag, but their quality is great. So Verbatim Ultra Speed CD-RW discs are the best way to go, provided you can buy them at a price you are willing to pay. However, you could buy Verbatim, Yamaha, or Mitsubishi Chemical branded Ultra Speed CD-RW discs and are likely to get the same decent results. So don't go back to 4x CD-RW discs--just buy the right Ultra Speed CD-RW discs and return those Memorex Ultra Speed CD-RW discs.

TheWizard my friend... well the thing is that if can't get it any other way, i'll have to do that. Well he BIG issue is that they're comming to Portugal late July and since i saw the media i thought Why the hell wait for 2/3 months if I can have it today? Wrong Thinking!!! Should've waited!
Anyway i'll still try to returned then althow in Portugal return policy doesn't work like in US... I wish it did but it doesn't... So for me it's probably 7€ down the drain....

I was so excited to finaly use my burner at maximum speed on the CD RW...

So i don't know if this means anything but after my nightmare with the old HP 8100+ I'm sure pretty satisfied...

It probably means you are using good quality media that is very compatible with your Plextor, and thus it burns beautifully at 48X.

I was able to return the Memorex CD's without any problem. I've been using this store for a while now and the guy just accept it without any problems.. Maybe our policy is changing.. Anyway i return those but unfortunately they didn't had any other 24x cd rw so i exchanged it for Mitsui cdr...
I’ve told them what's been happening with the cd and he was surprised cause it seems that some people are buying the cd's and haven’t complained... I'm also waiting for an email that i send to plextor and another to Memorex but so far this is what I have... I'll just have to wait for them to have the Verbatin media...

Last summer I purchased 125 Memorex CD-RW 700 Mb disks. The first 25 or so burned okay. But then the problems started with about every second or third causing machine lock ups, partial burns, rejects as bad media, etc. Some would record once then not erase for subsequent recording. I tried the duds on four different computers, using different software, each machine had a different brand of burner and every one freaked. Without doubt, the medium was bad. 33% of the disks were defective straightaway. Memtek offers a one year warranty. Silly me I thought this company cared about the quality of its product and spent the money and time to ship them all defective medium with a detailed letter explaining everything. 10 weeks passed with no answer. I sent a follow up letter to customer service at corporate. It's been eight weeks with neither a reply nor replacement medium. After checking the web I found this site, among many others, posting what I already know. Also, The BBB rating of this company is unsatisfactory. It does not respond to customer complaints, stiffs people on rebates and a whole lot of other things one can read about on the BBB website in the Memtec :evil: area: the Better Business Bureau serving zip code 90670 is:

In sum, this company sells defective products, does not honor the warranty and is unresponsive to customer concerns. Use its goods at risk. I'm filing a complaint with the BBB if for no other reason but to add another complaint to the list of other people who were ripped off and to pass the word so others are not screwed using Memorex products. There are too many really good brands of media to waste money, time and resources on garbage. :evil:

I just tried the new Imation 24X CD-RW on my Samsung SM-348B...rock n roll...first off...they are Mitsubishi Chemicals (same as Verbatim)...and CD speed gives me 24X across the board. A tad pricy...but I didn't need more than a 10 pak...$16.99 at Best Buy. They also carry a 25 pack of Verbatim Ultra High Speed for $26.99

I just got Memorex 700MB 24X CDRW discs and everything works fine. Depends on your CDRW drive and firmware. I have Asus 5224A drive with firmware 1.36. 24X speed burning with no errors.
