Lite-On Owners: How long does it take to write the Lead-In?

My LTR52246S takes about 21 seconds which is, in my opinion slightly shabby.
I have revealed that it doesn't matter what's the determined speed is or what the media characters are it still takes about 21 seconds.

Come to think about it, the writing process seems rather weird, at least based on my experience: It takes about 3 seconds to write the first 4% of the disc (Always 4%, no matter what size the media is) and that it taked about another 16 for the drive to speed up and for the red light to go on and only then will it start "real" writing procedure.

And by the way, it doesn't take too long to write 670MB Approx.: Less than three minutes.

Do i have a problem somewhere or are these descriptive actions seems normal to you?

The problem is, you're describing Nero Nero is NOT very forthcoming with what is REALLY being done, as they are more then happy to generalize things.

The first 4% usually "burn" really quickly, and then you have to wait a little bit for further progress right? what is really happening is Buffers are being filled, and the process is preparing to start, but nothing has actually been written to the disc yet.

Sometimes when I burn really REALLY small ISO's the bar fills up to 50% completed within 2-3 seconds, and then sits there for 20 seconds or so before continuing, and then waits another 20 seconds or so for the leadout. It makes perfect sense, but it LOOKS really weird!

Yeah, what happens is...

0) [only happens on some PCs I've seen) LiteOn calibrates the media;

1) Nero fills its own buffer;
2) Sends data to the LiteOn which then fills its buffer;
3) LiteOn calibrates the media (again?);
4) Lead-In starts.

(0) and (3) can take between 3 and 6 seconds each time; (1) typically 3 seconds; (2) about 2 seconds and (4) about 10 seconds on average.

It all mounts up lol.

So how long does it take your LiteOns to write the first 4% (All 4 steps Jase described)?

That "4%" is your read buffer, if you increase it the number may change to 6-7%. It's just waiting for the software/drive to start burning. Watch the drive light to see when the leadin and burn actually start.

I find that alcohol 120% is MUCH more accurate in telling you what is going on, and not only that, it also burns CDs faster then Nero!

As i said before, it takes my LiteOn about 21 seconds to write the first 4% (which is not only the Lead-In writing time.. The drive spins and does other "stuff").
