new Px Engine update

Postby dodecahedron on Tue Apr 22, 2003 11:29 am

for Click N Burn, RecoreNow, Sony CD Extreme and any other variations of the Prassi software:

there's a new Px Engine update out:
version 2.0.390

http://support.sonic.com/Downloads/engine.asp
http://support.sonic.com/Downloads/file ... ine390.exe

(alas for me, it didn't solve all my problems with Sony CD Extreme :( )

Thanks, dodecahedron. :)

This explains the mystery of Veritas ignoring their former Prassi products acquisition. Veritas sold this product line to Sonic Solutions in December, 2002. Leave it to Veritas to keep us unadvised. 8)

Don't feel bad that the lastest Px Engine update doesn't work with your Sony software. It doesn't do squat with any of the Prassi derived software as far as I can see. It doesn't change or fix anything with Click'n Burn Pro or Prassi PrimoCD Plus at all. The same is true for RecordNow Max with the LiteOn LTR-52246S. There are three recording speeds available, Max, Mid, and Min. These are the same choices that were available with the v.358 update.

As far as I am concerned, this v.390 update is a bust. Support for these (now Sonic Solutions) products remains crappy.

Your right Inertia,
The update didn't make a differance with my LTR-52246S and RecordNow DX.

i must comment.
this Px Engine update did a little good. but not everything i had hoped for.

i have Sony CD Extreme, updated to build 2.0.799.
works fine, except for not recognizing my Plextor 40x burner. won't let me choose it as recorder, only as a reader.

i tried to update the Px Engine with older updates:
Px Engine update 327
Px Engine update 358
and this had catastrophic effect:
if i try to start the program, after the splash and on it the text "initializing... Loading Px Engine... Scanning Buses... Almost done..." (this is the normal routine) i get an error dialog window titled Sony CD Extreme that says:
Run-time error '9':
Subscript out of range.
and then the prog shuts itself down.

the new Px Engine update 390 at least lets the program start up! (haven't yet tested actual burning).
however the Plex 40x is still not recognized as a burner. if i try to select it as a burner i get again the error 9, and the program shuts itself.
also, if i try to open the Tools->Options i also get the error 9 and program closes! :o

so i guess i'll uninstall and reinstall again, this time with no Px Engine update. that way no error 9, still no Plex 40x. but hopefully with the ability to get to the Options!

Inertia:

the Px updates i have:
327: ftp://eval.veritas.com/downloads/pro/ex ... ate327.exe
358: http://eval.veritas.com/downloads/pro/e ... ine358.exe
390: http://support.sonic.com/Downloads/file ... ine390.exe

do you know of any others, have links?
(not that i'm hopeful that i'll have better luck with a different one...but who knows?)

It allowed my copy of Prassi Primo cd plus to see another one of my CDRW drives. It now recognises my Sony 500a and my LiteOn 48x12x48
but still nothing for the 52. They need to update that thing more often, I was suprised they did anything at all after the big buyout though.

dodecahedron,

There is a v342 between the versions that you have.

Other older versions of the Px Engine update include:

320
311
300
281
263
240
237
217
214
204
188
138

I don't have any links, but have all of them on my hard drive. If you want any of them, let me know where to upload them. I have a s-l-o-w connection, but you will eventually get it (them).

@Inertia:
thanks. when i'll have spare time to fiddle with this i'll PM you.

@Dartman:
good to know it works with the Sony 500.
i'll post it on chris myden's review, someone there had the problem of his sony not being recognized by Sony CD Ext.

It was OK with the earlier PX engine also so hard to say if his program needs something else to work but it works great in the burning program.
It was the only drive it worked with once I traded out my 32x LiteOn till this latest update. I always like Prassi, very simple but worked nicely.

It bugs me that the penultimate Px Engine update v358 supported the LiteOn LTR 48246S (and the Sony CRX500-E), but the LTR 52246S is still not supported although exactly the same drive as the LTR 48246S except for the firmware.

The LiteOn 48x12x48 is a discontinued drive, so they are still way behind the curve in the realm of good support in my opinion. When the latest supported drives are discontinued, that speaks volumes.

Personally, I hate the way Sonic releases updates for RecordNow and DLA. The only way you can get them is to use their Update Manager. I have never gotten it to work right. It downloads the updates, but never applies them. I wish they'd just put them on their website so I could do it manually.
