Need Info on LG 8481b

Postby buchan2 on Sat Apr 05, 2003 1:18 pm

Ok I just had to replace my old 40 X AOpen burner and since it was under warranty the store replaced it. They didn't have any more of the AOpens so they gave me an LG GCE-8481b. I can't find ANYTHING about this drive?

Anybody out there know anything about it???? Was this a good trade up or did I get screwed? It seems to work ok but I would really like to hear from anybody who knows anything about this drive. Here is the Nero CD speed test on a data cd...

Please let me know what you think ...
Thanks

the GCE 8481B is basically the same as the GCE 8480B.
here's Ian's review:
LG GCE-8480B 48/16/48 CD-RW
it's a pretty good drive! :D
quite a few people around here have very good opinions about LG drives.

btw anyone know exactly what the differences are?

OK here's some more info:

LG's website:
http://www.lgeus.com/Product/CD/GCE_8480b.asp
http://www.lgeus.com/Product/CD/GCE_8481b.asp

the 8481B rewrites at 24x max whereas the 8480B at 16x.
other than that the specs appear to be identical.

I am so glad to see that review. It looks like I didn't get screwed it looks like its at least as good or better than my AOpen :-)

I just checked a disk I burnt yesterday at 48X and it didn't have any of the errors that the review was talking about so maybe they fixed that problem. I also just noticed the disk info tab under NEROs drive speed test ... way cool :) I guess my next step will be to add it to the compatable list in this forum for my drive.

Thanks for the links dodecahedron I was starting to get worried

I got the LG 8481B since Christmas, and I'm very happy with it, seems like a very well built drive like other LGs, burn quality is very good, never had a coaster yet, and it's very quiet too, it's my 3rd LG, not one bad one yet, I would have to say that LG is one of the best or if not the best low price CD burners around.
Mess with me, I will BurnU2death!

I have 8481B from 2 Months and i'm very happy having it :). Very fast and quiet burner, no coasters. (I've only had coasters when changed the mainboard and the new one seemed incompatible  )

Definitely a good drive (about 1000 CDs burned till now)
