I've got XP Home and Pro. Mandrake Linux 9.1 and Knoppix 3.2 (Latest Build.) I voted for Linux/Windows Dual Boot. That is throughout three different computers.

I use XP Home (SP1) on my main desktop and on my laptop. It is more stable (and faster) than 98 was on the desktop. The laptop came with XP. 8)

hey socheat, you ever give knoppix a try, i can't stress enough the ease of installation, actually there is no install, i recommend just trying it once

hoxlund...no chance.
Linux users who go Debian will never touch another distribution....they consider it supreme and all others are beneath them...

so right away you shoot me down? you don't even know what it is, :x

why don't you at least try it, it doesn't touch your system at all, its a no install linux distro, all you do is pop in the cd, and boot from it, then bamm, your in linux, no user setup's, nothing that writes information to your hard drives

Can I add something here?

Knoppix IS A NO INSTALL Debian. Therefore, basically the same thing.

take it easy, man, nobody's shooting you.

as for me personally, i'm about to install Linux dual-boot with XP, it's going to be Red Hat 8.0...i'm not enough of a Linux guru to go Debian (yet... :) )

anyway, no-install Linux isn't the real thing...can't really do much with it.

Wrong hox,

It has everything Debian has. Mandrake has so much more.

Dodecahedron,

Get Mandrake 9.1 instead of Red Hat 8. Mandrake is so much better.

I am curious about "98 Lite". What is this exactly? Obviously, it sounds like a stripped-down version of Win98, and if that is the case, I was hoping somebody could be a bit more specific about what that means.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that it is in the list of OS's that is part of this poll. It is not in the list.

But there is such an operating system. I have read bits and peices about it in forums. I was hoping somebody here could shed more light on it.

Wow, I turn my back for a couple hours and a Linux fight started!

Hoxlund: yes, I've tried Knoppix, and I love it. Aviationwiz is right, Knoppix is Debian based. The problem (if you could call it that) is that it only resides in memory, which presents a few limitations. But, I do use it for testing laptops and how well their hardware is supported in Linux. (Side note: the vprMatrix laptops have got to be the most linux friendly laptops I've ever seen)

Dodeca's also right. I doubt I'll switch to anything thing else anytime soon. Debian's package management system is wonderful, though it would be nice if it had something similar to FreeBSD's port system (packages built from source). In defense of RedHat, I hear that RedHat Update is nice too, though I wouldn't want to have to subscribe for something like that...

well since we have a linux guru here, im trying to find a distro that fully supports my audigy sound card, and also about the vpr matrix notebooks

they are specificly design for best buy, and since i used to work there, i agree whole-heartedly, they are deffently kick-ass notebooks

also i want a linux distro that can burn cds from cd images and/or just copy pressed disks

like copy software, copy protected ones
