Ikebana Dual Format DVD Writer?

Postby Abell44 on Sat Mar 29, 2003 5:20 pm

I saw this one posted on the Techbargains site for an Ikebana Dual Format
Drive.

http://shop3.outpost.com/product/3612885

They seem to think it may be a Ricoh unit. (2Mb Buffer vs. 8Mb Sony)

Image

Not much of a pic, but the Outpost image was the only one I found.

Does anyone have any experience or info on this one. I couldn't find anything on it, even at the Shecom website.

Thanks!

It looks like an NEC ND-1300A OEM.

The OEM price is somewhere around US$150 so they can make profits by selling at $220 retail.

A Sony OEM is my guess. It could be that the OEM versions only have 2 MB buffer or it's an error in the stated specifications.
Ricoh does not make DVD±R/RW drives and the NEC ND-1300 is not available yet and the specifications is different (the ND-1300 has faster seek times (140/120 ms), faster CD/DVD reading (40x/12x), slower CD-R writing (16x)).

Ian and jsl are correct (but the buffer size is still 8MB), and I can confirm it: I have one in my possession (I received it today). :)

My solution to the Plextor vs. Lite-On debate: Buy 'em both! :)
