90 Min burning problem : help please !!

Hello all,

I just bought some Traxdata 90 Min (800 Mb) 48X CDR, and tried to burn data with Nero 5.5.X to 85 min approx. (Liteon 48246S)

Burning went well, but my CD is full of read errors, and some files are non-readable with either my DVD-drive (Pionneer 104) or my CDR-Writer (Liteon 48x24x48x)

For now, 3 CDR are dead...

Please, any idea that could help ? thanks !

I haven't tried 90/99 min. CDs or overburning myself, but the standard answer seems to be "have a look at Spazmogen's overburning guide" (part of his signature in every post), so I'll pass that on to you: http://www3.sympatico.ca/brad.ormsby/spazmogen.htm

The description there is for music CDs, but the basic procedure applies to data CDs as well. Note that you have to "overburn" even if you don't use the full capacity of your disks because the CDR standard does not cover media with capacities greater than 80 min.

You didn't mention the speed at which you burned, but since 90 and 99 minute discs are outside of the standard and violate specifications such as track pitch, you should burn them at slow speeds to increase the burn quality on these difficult discs. I also have not burned any such discs, but I think most people who do recommend 16x as the highest speed at which you would ever want to burn them.

Also, try updating your drive to the latest firmware if you have not done so. LiteOn firmware updates improve media compatibility. The latest for your drive is SS0C:

Finally, you might want to upgrade Nero to the latest version (currently 5.5.10.15a, but likely to be replaced by a new version shortly - perhaps as soon as this Tuesday):

I don't think this is the cause of your errors, but is still recommended if you have a dated version.

I agree with cfitz. Slower seems to be better.

The fastest I've had success with was 16x. I wasted several discs before I found that out. That result will change with a different brand of discs, firmware etc.

I'm just careful now, 4x or 8x. Never more.

Hi all

If iremember i managed 2 burn the 2nd LOTR video(which was in 2 parts) onto 99Min cdr's.I forgot 2 drop the speed, but it burned it at 24x(disc's rated at this speed) & they work perfectly

This using Nero with overburning on using a LiteOn 52x24x52x

But it proberly best 2 reduce the speed, don't know if mine was a fluke
